Flowing water in Source - Is it possible?

If it was discussed before, then my apologies, but with a search I didn't get specific results.
My question is, is it possible to make running water, rivers with the Source engine?
The reflections and water textures are beautiful, but I can't remember seeing flowing water in HL2, CS:S or in DoD:Source.

None of the existing water textures will do it for you, and afaik it's not realistically feasible. This guy on hl2.net made a waterfall off a carved cylinder (dozens of pieces tied together) but that's as "volumetric water" as I've seen.

surely you could make a 'flowing' water texture or one that will look like its 'flowing' if used on some conveyer ent like in the old hl1 engine. Though I think the reflections and what not would need to be killed for it to work.

Maybe an overlay would work.

You need to set the scroll rate/direction in the .VMT proxy for the water material u want to use

A displacement that would have the shape of the waterfall and some material with a proxy.

Some special waterfall texture would be great as a default water one would certainly look HL1ish.
