Garand Reskin - WTF Black Marks?

ok this is a work in progress BUT, im posting here because i dunno whats wrong...
in no way did i resize or anything, so far ive only recolored the metal, ive made a from-scratch metal im going to use on it but as of now i just recolored it to see how a darker metal would look, and made the wood a bit different (holding in place because of this issue)
BUT why are these little black marks appearing all over the place? mainly on edges?

This usually happens to me when I colour or don't colour very dark areas that I do not notice are part of what makes up the area in question - wood it seems in this case.
I would recheck and see if maybe some areas you have left dark should actually be part of the wood texture.
Edit: And yes this usually happens at edges.

The problem is when you conver them from VTF to TGA they become mis-aligned for no reason.
You have to download a Photoshop plug-in and edit the VTF file directly without changing it to TGA that fixes it, the link for the plug-in is in another thread. I'd find it but im posting at work and cant stay on here for long :D

Is your Antiostropic (sp?) Filter on 16x? Are your texture settings set on high?
If not, then it may be using one of the lower resolution mip maps (which are misaligned).
From the looks of it, you're not using these high quality settings because the detail is all blurred (due to the scaling).
You can also try mat_mipmaptextures 0 (1 is default)

when you compile the tga, make sure you have a txt file with the same name. inside that make sure it says "nomip" "1"

When you get this figured out I would love to get my hands on it. The allied weapons skins really really dont do it for me.
