Here is a quick way to set up hammer to create dods map with only default entities and info_player_allies and info_player_axis

You can use all dod materials, models and sounds with this method but none of the dod specific entities other than the info_player_allies/axis will be available until the official FGD is released

First off download GCFScape (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=163#p163)

Now use GCFScape to extract all of the files in the Day of Defeat Source GCF to your steamaccount/Day of Defeat Source folder

Do this by opening GCFScape, clicking OPEN then select Day of Defeat Source.GCF then right click the folder named DOD in the left pane and select EXTRACT then select your steamaccount/Day of Defeat Source folder and click yes if it asks to overwrite, do the same for the folder in the left pane called RESLIST

*NOTE* It will take a bit of time for DOD to extract

Now open Hammer and do the fallowing

Click TOOLS>OPTIONS and select EDIT next to the dropdown under CONFIGURATION and then click ADD, type any name here, i used DODSTEMP

Now next to GAME DATA FILES click ADD and add the halflife2.FGD

We will now setup the directories

Game Executable Directory: SteamAccount/Day of
Defeat Source

Game Directory:
SteamAccount/Day of Defeat Source/dod

Hammer Map Directory:
SteamAccount/sourcesdk_content/hl2/mapsrc

Now click the Build Programs tab and set the fallowing

Game Executable:
SteamAccount/Day of Defeat Source/HL2.EXE

Place Compiled Maps in this Directory Before Running the Game:
SteamAccount/day of defeat source/dod/maps

Set the rest of the build program perams to the defaults for hl2 compiling if they arent already set then click APPLY and OK

Now close Hammer and restart it with your new config selected (DODSTemp) and everything should work just fine

Now to create player starts just add info_player_starts and rename them to info_player_allies/axis

Enjoy and if you have any questions/problems let me know

Works for me, the only problem i have encountered so far is an overflow error when runing amap compiled with certain dods models, not sure why htough

The first few compiles worked fine but now everytime i run a map i compiled it closes dods and gives me some cant read memory error, so you guys should just use this method to start building your maps with the textures and models but if you compile you will most likely get an error, im gonna see if i can fix this though

Alright i fugred it out just now

Remove the dodtemp.FGD from your setup and just add an info_player_start then rename it to info_player_allies and info_player_axis

You can also use ented to extract entities from the current dod maps and set them up in hammer and theoretically have a fully functional map

Anyway if you do this everything should compile perfectly

I also updated the main tut on this to reflect this post

Enjoy and let me know your results

yeh it seems to work untill you save the map fater doing Displacements, then going back into the map, all the Displacements get Destroyed and when you try to create them again i get an Error...

Hammer seems to work fine except when I go to compile a map... It cannot find the bsp. As far as I know all the directories are set up as shown in this tut.

Here is the error I get:

Loading c:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\MyAccount\sourcesdk_co ntent\hl2\mapsrc\dod_mytest.bsp
Error opening c:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\MyAccount\sourcesdk_co ntent\hl2\mapsrc\dod_mytest.bsp

** Executing...
** Command: Copy File
** Parameters: "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\MyAccount\sourcesdk_co ntent\hl2\mapsrc\dod_mytest.bsp" "c:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\MyAccount\day of defeat source\dod\maps\dod_mytest.bsp"

The command failed. Windows reported the error:
"The system cannot find the file specified."

Any suggestions?

The BETA SDK is out now, you do not need to follow this method. In your Steam launch shortcut add '-beta sdk' to the command line and you will have access to the official dod:s setup.

I guess there must be more to it...

My target is:
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steam.exe"

And it won't let me change anything.

thanx anyway.

Same problem here...

I'm using the desktop shortcut.

just create a blank shortcut and input the properties yourself.

...or take the "" off so you just have C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steam.exe

then u can add params to the end

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steam.exe -beta sdk

its definitly my shortcut (desktop). I even created a new one with copy/paste shortcut just in case.

I get an error popup that says "the name 'C:\Program' specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure path and file name are correct"

I know I have used extra parameters in other games to run the console etc. before and never had a problem.

Make sure there are spaces in all the right places...

Make sure there are spaces in all the right places...

I have it as shown. I am thinking this has something to do with windows and how it treats shortcuts to the program files folder. Shortcuts to other folders do not have the quotes and can be changed.

Anyone have a clue?
