DOD Source FGD then?

Well I guess I was the only person sat at home waiting for the release so that I could get mapping again, that said has anyone seen where the FGD is located? I cant find it but then its late and I might have missed it.
If its not there is there any news on when we can expect to see the SDK update or something?

I just asked Mugsy about it, and he doesn't know how that'll be released. He'll try and bug the right guys, so whenever I know something I'll report back.

lol, it says Day Of Defeat: Source in my source sdk but when i click on it in the drag down menu it keeps bringing me back to the Half-Life 2 option. Its playign mind games with me.

I'd like to see anzio released as an example map. I think it covers a lot of areas for mapping. Great SkyBox (and area beyond gameplay area), water (and with a nice blue look to it instead of the regular clear), lot's of great style and textures, great HDR, etc etc etc... So, it gets my vote for a sample map.
Too bad I don't think there is a chance in #$@% that will ever happen. But, regardless, any sample map would be nice. I can't wait to start trying my hand at a DoD:S map.

How in the heck did you get it to say that? absolutley no sign of DOD-S in my SDK.
Oh well I guess I'll just have to make to with playing this great game first for a while :p

my sdk listed dod:s earlier today, but when I tried to run it it said bad gameinfo.txt. checked back after reading this thread and it was gone again :confused:

WT, it would be completely useless. Both FD's and my map crash currently halfway through loading. We're missing a good chunk of entities, and the beta fgd we have is just that: a beta. It won't work.

My guess is that flash will be released with the sdk, if there's a map at all. Valve seems to give good, complete maps that don't give away all of their super secrets.

There is a program that converts them to .maps and they are actually complete and not junky like the HL1 bsp converter. I used it to look at some CS:S stuff. Helped a lot with learning how they did stuff.

Id have hopped that it would have been released ASAP, as there were only 4 maps on release it's a great time for custom mappers to get their work noticed and the community is probably more open to custom maps due to the limited choice.

we've asked the devs/valve about it (a while ago) so hopefully we'll here soon about it. we'll keep everyone posted if we hear anything, but valve or the devs may just post something direct.

I'm afraid to see in the .gcf that the official maps are until 40-50 megaoctet.
If the players see that they must download 40-50 mega, they don't download it.

In today's world of technology, probably 85% who play dod/dod:s do it on broadband. This being said, as long as the maps are hosted with good bandwidth behind it, downloading 40MB isn't a problem.
People won't mindlessly DL maps though, so they'll want to see screen shots and be impressed before thinking about it.

AFAIK steam compresses the maps for transfer. I was test playing my map and some guy joined (I'm too lazy to switch to LAN mode). A status message announced that it's compressing the map and it turned out to be somewhat around 3.5 MB then (10,5 MB uncompressed). Dunno if that also works for HTTP download tho.

I'm sure it's more about prioritizing things. Mugsy told me he had bugs to fix before he would work on the sdk update, and I can only assume those bugs are those from yesterday's update. So he's working on it, and once the Steam guys are ready to push the download, then we'll have it.
Seriously the game has been out 36 hours now, I can kill time playing if I need to wait for some more days before the update is upon us.

That is correct. The next SDK release will update the tools to allow HDR (and Day of Defeat: Source) content to be generated. Due to release schedule conflicts it was not possible to release it simultaneously with the rest of the engine updates, but it is coming.

You will be able to use it, only you won't have access to the HL2 models/textures (nor CSS if you haven't bought it either) Quite a few of them fit a WWII theme...

But as you can see...its not right. I don't have the Beta set up anymore for mapping after Steam died and I had to reinstall everything!
Its missing all the beta textures and models as well as placing detail sprites for the 3D skybox in the maps textures. Flags and timers semi-work but thats it.
I probably have the old beta fgd on my old PC back at home but I doubt I'd be able to release it as the team would probably go nuts.

Remember you can easily get a map going in dod, just with no flags for now.
So get to work on a small TDM map for people to play until you get the fgd. Ive already got one in the works.

Yes you can, try scrolling to the very bottom of your games list, you should see "tools" and "source SDK" and that is there.
when you have the SDK run it and to map you want to use Hammer Editor at the top.

meh, even if there are servers playing ice caverns, we arn't missing much. You basically fight around a big white box with snow on the ground. Very basic CS map and it seems like nothing has changed about it since then. I'd rather wait for the SDK update wait than play maps that make Wolfenstien 3D look like a Pixar movie.

You dont need HL2 or anything else for the SDK as it is a tool for making games on the source engine etc so it is free.
I have had a look on the internet and cant find anyone else with ur problem so a good bet is prob just to e-mail Valve and ask them how you can obtain it or what the problem is.

Mappers are by the nature of our work very patient people we can wait :D
The lack of an FGD dosent actually stop you from mapping for source, you can still make all your terrain / buildings etc, so just do what you can and get it ready for all the entities.

It actually may very well be that if your only source game is DoD Source, and since the Dod Source SDK isn't out, that those guys can't see the SDK in their games menu. That would make sense...

It doesn't make a difference whether or not you *only* have DODS and/or have other source/hl2 games. The SDK/FGD is released all at the same time as everybody else.

I understand the SDK update should come in a week or so. It should not only have the DoD FGD but also new build tools etc. for HDR. There should be an associated Hammer update as well although I'm not sure what's new/changed/etc.

Cant wait, while playing the game today I had an idea to make several maps that go together to make a campaign, starting on the beaches and working inland etc.

i didn't realise entedit could do hl2 maps. i tried it ages ago but found bspedit to be easier on my limited brain resourses, i'll give it another whirl :)
Last word from Erik Johnson in the HL coder mailing list, it will take them a couple of weeks to finish up the next sdk update. :l
