Source Flag Model Question

On the server I play at now, we added custom flags to every map be editing the res. file. Can I do the same thing in Source maps to get the custom flags to show up? And is it the same process?

im not sure what you mean.

Are you saying you added custom flag capture points? As in different locations from the orginal placement of the flag?

Or were you replacing the model of the flag and making it look different visually?

Yeah, I replaced the default flag model itself w/ a custom flag model. I did that on every map. When people join the server, they DL the flags2.mdl that the res file calls for. What I'm asking is, can I do the same thing in dod source?

Here's the original thread where I first asked about doing this in DoD 1.6

While no one really knows for sure, it probably will be set up the same way it is now.

Any word on if I can still do this?

Im sure with the right tools, that you can do this on source just as easily. Check out the server forum or talk to Shane as he runs a server and would most likely know.

Yeah you can

They do it for css models and decals all the time with the manimod and stuff like that

You should be able to use resedit . . .

just a quick question though... SO, Ez.. If you make it so the client auto downloads the missing flag model for the map you are playing doesn't that then become their default flag model for any map? Or, have you edited the map's files to call for a differently named model? Like, is Flag2 the name of the default flag, or is that the name of the custom flags you provide?

I guess I was wondering if you were forcing custom content on people to change their game, or if it was purely map specific...

I have the res file to call up "flag2.mdl" which they download one time and it's used on all maps on the server. The custom flags only work on my server and no other.

Ahhh... Gotcha.. Cool idea man.. Might be used as a way to set up map specific player models as well..

You know, I bet you could. Do I smell a G.I. Joe map?

Haha.. One never knows ;)

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of player model texture changes for specific maps as a start..

For example, you could pack custom winter player model textures in with winter maps.. forest camo with woodland maps.. etc.. As long as the map's res file called for them.. If that's possible..

sorry to burst your bubble guys, but I don't think that is possible. all the map calls is info_player_axis and info_player_allies. the map doesn't decide what model to use for those entities.

it works for the flags because you call the dod_control_point entity, but you can specify which model to use for that entity.

Ah well.. I'm not a mapper so I wouldn't have the foggiest about what's doable within the map.. Thanks for the info.. It was a novel idea while it lasted :)
