Is it possible to make a custom dod source crosshair with the Source SDK ? Or are there other (noob) programs to make a Source crosshair ?

Don't know how the dod source crosshairs would be, but i really like my blue dot-cross i have now :D

It was stated here somewhere (I forget where) that the crosshairs in DoD:S were still sprites. So, you should still be able to use custom ones.

yeah, they said the crosshairs would still be sprites. But the files are no longer .spr files but have the extension .TTF or .VMT
So I can't open them with the sprite-viewer I have for HL1 crosshairs.

You mean vtf, the texture format for source. There's a vtf plugin for photoshop somewhere so all you'll have to do is edit the xhair vtf file in photoshop.

Except crosshars are actually images within the TTF file - at least in HL2, etc.

To change the crosshair you'll have to edit the TTF font.

that's what i mean. Are there (simple) programs to edit/create crosshairs ? Some turritorials would be nice too :)

You'll need a program that can edit a TTF font and/or import/export specific characters as vector.

Most programs to do that are commerical or have to be paid for in some way but theres probably a few shareware ones around. I'd try tucows.com.

I think the file dod/materials/sprites/dodcross.vtf (and maybe dodcross.vmt) is all that you should have to edit to make a custom crosshair for source.

I'm planning to try using VTFEdit to export the image to a TGA file, then a picture editing program to edit the TGA, then using VTFEdit again to reimport the TGA into the dodcross.vtf again. I think that should do it... we'll see.

Well I could be wrong, it's happened before. However, as I said in all the HL2 mods I've seen the crosshairs ahve been defined in a TTF file as that way their vectors and scale better for each resolution.

All the mods I've found or looked around or created crosshairs for have all used a .ttf file.

Each weapon can then call a seperate letter in the font file for its crosshair. I used FontCreator v5 to edit them, its a free 30 day trial and works well.
