[REQ] Need some map models (Source)

Hi there guys,

I'm wondering if someone here has some spare time on their hands and would be able to make some custom models for my beach map that I'm working on.

I'll give you a little bit of back ground on the map for a start.

The allies will start off in landing craft that are running in toward the beach, it will take about 15-20 seconds for the landing craft to reach their landing points whilst dodging artillery and mortar fire.
I'm considering having one or more landing craft 'exploding' while running into the beach from being hit by shell fire. Or possibly being flipped over by a log ramp etc etc.
Now of course the axis are ensconeded within their bunkers upon the beachhead. There will be MG bunkers, pak bunkers and coastal artillery casemates behind the beachhead. Along with some nice trench networks aswell.
Right that should give you a bit of an idea of what I'm aiming at making here.

So I'll just chuck a list down below of some things I can think of off the top of my head,

Belgain gates

Wooden posts with and without mines atop them, also an exploding version and a ruined one.

Hedgehogs if dod source doesn't have them when released

A series of barbed wire networks for the beachhead, shingle and 'other' areas

Detail models for the bunkers, also interior models like tables and radios if not in dod source

Some Pak38, Pak40, 125mm artillery peices, quad flak cannons.

Well thats it for now, obviously theres alot of work there. So if someone could help out here and there or just even make one of these things it would be great, I can research pictures of any of the above mention items to help you out.

Hope to hear from someone soon. Below are pictures of the map so far, its more advanced then these screens show as I haven't uploaded the newest pictures.

Sorry I won't be of much help, but I've just got to comment on how sweet looking that is. Makes me sad that I can't afford to get DoD: S right now:(

Stuff like that will probably appear in the GCF when its released. I think pretty much all props got re-done in house at Valve.

Oh and theres an LCVP model in this thread:

thanks for the link jed, I don't know weather alot of what I want will be in source though, the barbed wire models I want done won't be that I know.

The hedgehogs will be for sure going by the picture of anzio that went the rounds ages ago and hopefully the landing craft.

And how are those trees and hedges etc of yours going jed?

Im not doing any until I see whats in the GCF. I started a load of prop models but realised it would be pointless as they'd probably be in the GCF and why waste hours doing something that Valve would do anyway.

I'll wait for it to come out before I decide what models I'll make.

Well as I explained before - Valve are doing all the modelling for DoD:S in house which means they've got there top guys on it. If the Tiger that was in the beta is anything to go by, the quality will be excellent (if a little poly intensive).

The problem is, modeling for Source, even map models, is quite a bit more work than for DoD 1.3 - you've got your basic high(ish) poly model, physics models, collision boxes, LOD levels, etc. etc. and it take a lot more time.

I don't want to start work on a model to find that its already being done by Valve for DoD:S - if its in the GCF mappers will favour it over a custom model simply because they'll know everyone will have it.

Anyway, when Source comes out, i'll wait and see whats missing, whats needed and maybe have a go at finishing the models. I can churn the out quickly enough - its just with the UV Mapping, texturing and everything else the workload for one person is a lot per person and I don't want to waste time on something that wont get used.

i've just finished making a 150mm canon for my beach map, the same ones used at the longues sur mer battery. the only reference i've got for the back though are 2 photos i took when i was at that battery. it still looks decent enough though, all it needs is a skin. i actually only came in this forum to request a skin for it, so there should be a thread above this one when you read this, with renders and whatever else. if you want it, and as long as someone does skin it, i'll send it to you once it's done.


as for the other props, iron hedgehogs and landing craft will be in anzio (although the iron hedgehogs now look brand new, instead of the old rusted ones from the beta that fuzzdad has in falaise). i'm planning on making some more barbed wire models, and maybe some other beach models (belgian gates and other obstacles), aswell as a german field radio. as i said before, once i'm finished with them, i don't mind sending them.
also, for bunker props, check the props_wasteland folder. there's loads of pipes and machinery stuff in there, which is what i've been using mainly.

hey thanks alot for the offer, I'll proberly have to take you up on that :) I'm looking at having three coastal batteries out the back of the map and that 150mm piece looks sweet :)

I'm going to start learning how to use modelling programs tonight, I think as a mapper on the source engine I need to know these things for sure now :)

Have a word with watchtower possibly, he's busy atm but might be able to get something done for you pretty soon.

Those Valve ones look nice! I REALLY like Jeds more though...To have both would be nice...keep on it Jed! :)
