I am a little tired of people *****ing about fileplanet, here is a clue numbnutts, BANDWIDTH IS NOT FREE, so be glad even though you have to wait in line, you can download damn near anything for free.

Or, you can stop being cheap arses and pay the 9.99 per month. If you tell me you cannot afford it I will laugh in your face since I know most of you spend that much in hand lotion every month.

Any more whining about fileplanet, which insults people who actually pay for the server service to host models for your arse and I will just start deleting your post and if you persist just give you a nice long vacation.

Exactly and the bandwidth is great, for $9.99 it is very much worth the price to get max DL speeds. Even the free services haul arse, and like you said, rarely do you have to wait.

I think fileplanet is the most reliable hosting site...like waiting 30 minutes in line is worth it cause at least i kno the download will work. Some other sites...u dont have to wait at all..but the download sometimes doesnt work...

When it came to downloading DOD 1.0 I could find 2 sites to download it from:

Fileplanet and another site I found on the official mirrors list. Everywhere else was giving me an error page.

I got it quicker waiting in the FP queue and downloading from there than downloading direct from the other host.

I'll use FP now and again - it doesn't mean I have to like them or dislike then.

If you want to cry "sell out" or call them "gheyspy" or something equally immature, then just don't download from there - but don't ***** when someone uses them as a host.

They are a company providing a service.

Fileplanet's all right in my book.

Mostly because I have an account with which to download.

However, even before acquiring said account, I found it to be the most reliable download site.

on another note, i dont see why people get their pants all in a bunch, people seriously need to CHILL OUT. i mean, so few people have patience anymore.

8 minutes is not that much, just friggin open that window and go about doing something else. i can think of 50 diff things to do while waiting for that DL.

Yeah it does, because Editor321 uses it and so do a few other guys for model hosting, and people were *****ing about it because they didn't like FP for whatever reasons.

The only reason I can see for not liking FP is the wait times, which, because I have a rudimentary knowledge of how the internet works, I understand the idea behind it. And I also remember what it was like before the lines when those on broadband could nab anything they wanted, and those on modems were fuxed if they weren't quick enough. So quit yer *****in, and if anyone says 'I don't want to have to pay for free files!' then I WILL hurt you.

Nope, I havent gotten it, but it does look nice. I'm not angry with having to wait, but when its a model that has been out for 20 minutes and the mirror is full, something is up.

Better yet, use an other file site if fp sucks so bad(which it does).

(note: I don't know if this has already been said, as I'm to tired to read any other posts in this thread)

i just dl at night when all the bandwidth hogging kiddies are in bed, then i never have to wait for my dl's

I already pay for the monthly subscription... Best money I've spent in a long time... Hell.. the new 500mb HL2 video is awesome, and I didn't have to wait 2 hours either...

in england, anytime before 5pm will usualy mean no ques cus u yanks are at work ;) however after 5/6 when u guys are on your lunch-breaks and the europeans are getting home from work, then it goes to tremendous ques if its something popular :)

i dont like file planet because sometimes the ques ARE rediculously long, but on the whole it is ALWAYS reliable, it rarely goes down, i mean i hosted a short film i made up there form last march and its STILL there :) i mean... all u need is a little patience, i just go and make myself some dinner, or go watch TV or do some work while it downloads :) jeez, it aint that bad that everyone needs to **** themselves, i say if they winge give em a temp ban, if they havent learn from that then wave em goodbye for good!

btw i gotta be honest "gheyspy" did make me smile :)

Fileplanet isnt that bad when downloading small stuff like models from editors site thats all i use it for though.

The trick is to use an e-mail account that u use for registering on sites that u know will spam you to death. It's not hard to register one on Hotmail or any other similar free service.

Someone has to pay for the bandwidth, either you, the ads or some other nice person. A direct link to a file doesn't take me more than a few seconds to load. And in case you don't want to pay and don't want to watch the ads, use WebWasher or any similar popup/ad killer.

SpyBot is a good proggie for that. Finds even the tiniest bits of programs that send your most personal details to Microsoft (although it won't detect Windows lol uh oh bad joke D:!½ ).

You don't have to pay anything, they offer you a lot of free bandwidth. They just offer you more bandwidth if you pay :F If you can get the files anywhere else, how do you explain all the "I NEED A HOST" threads etc D:

My only major gripe with Fileplanet is the fact that I cant download from it using Getright. Only a little annoyance, but an annoyance all the same - usually their servers are fast, thought I rarely seem to be able to get hold of the UK/Europe ones.

I use GetRight and I haven't had a problem. I just don't turn it on until my file is ready to download.

My other gripe with it is that you have to wait obscenely long for tiny files. Its not so bad, and certainly a lot more understandable, when you have to wait long periods of time for larger files (ie: dod 1.0 installer, HL2 movies, Planetside beta, etc), but when I have to wait just as long sometimes for a 300k model file, that pushes it a bit.

For one thing, you don't have to pay, unless your too damned stupid or impaitent to scroll down the webpage and see the free servers. And secondly, it's not a second rate service when you look at the transfer speeds and the sheer number of files they have up there. Plus, bandwidth isn't free. Get that through your head: the internet is not some idealistic place that everyone has decided to run for free. It is a collection of businesses, and it requires money for the internet to even exist. If FP didn't charge for bandwidth, then they'd end up going under and dying. The 'net will never be free like it was before, it was a new territory to explore when it first came out, and we were the explorers, pioneers, and founders. But now the net is founded and established and guess what: it costs money. Get over it.

Dude, bravo! I'm fine with fileplanet when I'm getting the newest patch or demo and I have to wait about 20 mins or so, but when the wait is 11 minutes for a file that would take two seconds, literally on my cable, thats rediculous.

lol i get approx 90 spam mesages a day 0 of which come from fileplanet :)

Number 1, it isn't fast, at all. I download at 500k a second from any other site, but i get 60 at fileplanet. All the alternate servers i use don't ever seem to have any bandwidth problems, so what gives? No one is going to pay for a personal fileplanet server, because we've read PC Gamer reviews of them, and they suck. PCGamer usually knows what they're talking about so i'd take their word for it. And no one buys hand lotion, that's pathetic.

The Cheat, no ones gonna pay for an account? Hmm thats funny as seeing theres tons of people who are. Now i like fileplanet cause its fast and reliable and i plan on geting a subscribed account. :)

I've never broken the 100kb/s barrier using their 'service'. That includes my friend who has the personal server, which he's cancelling next month btw. It's rediculious to turn to them when I can find another mirror that gives me 300kb/s + download speeds. Hell, If I like someone is selling webspace and reasonable bandwidth, I'll gladly pay :10bux: a month for good download speeds and no lines, but Fileplanet, for ten dollars, I should get faster downloads and no ads.

You guys just suck or something, FP gives me fast speeds. Just as fast as most mirrors, if not faster.

So why do you download from FilePlanet at all? Why not download everything from those 500K servers?

Ah, I think I know why... those 500K servers don't have the files you're looking for... which is why they don't have bandwidth issues. After all, if no one's using them... :p
