Fast Map

I find myself getting kinda burnt out on alot of maps, and I think the reason is that they take too long to finish and/or never finish. I'd like to play more maps that have a victor before the mapchange, maybe even several times over. So the purpose of this post is to pick the brains of the many mappers and players here.

Are there any custom maps that people can think of that have fast turnovers? Maps that usually end fast and have many cap outs per play? I guess I'm in a cranky mood, cuz I'm drawing a blank and I'm usually pretty good about recollecting maps.

I can say that maps that don't fit this profile are dod_hobofire, dod_heutau, etc. Maps that have limited access, no time limits/objectives, and linear design tend to lead to alot of choke points and stalemates, which is fine, but I'm currently interested in the opposite of that.

Speed and chaos is what I'm looking for, instead of countless runs from spawn and 35 minute stalemates. Any help would be appreciated.

dod_chemille is one I can think of straight away it can have either a slow turn over or a very fast one

If you want fast caps then you need:

-small map size
-ideally non-linear
-difficult to defend last flags
-very 'clean' not many places to hide

dod_harrington is probably the most popular custom map for that gameplay.

I tried to design my map dod_prome on these principles. However it developed a nasty error I can't fix so work on it stopped.

It's still playable though...

The fact is though mappers also strive for balance and if they skill levels of two sides are the same then any map will not be capped.

I agree with everything you've said, but I'm looking for map names that fit that description.

I'm drawing a blank lately I guess and I can't think of specific maps.

I remembered a perfect example of the type of map I'm looking for:

dod_custard_b1


It's so tight that it's very hard to camp/protect the flags, which leads to alot of sway for map control. Also, all the flags are single cappers, which also makes them very fast.

Another good example is dod_vaals_b2, as the spawns are very close to the action, so there's not alot of aimless running.

I'd still be happy to hear some more.

Look at strom_b3. Its fast, small and can be a nade fest on the middle flag/bridge. The b4 version is good also but plays completely different because the additional routes and cap zones.
