mapping help tutorials

can anyone point me in the right direction to some good tutorials for bigginers on mapping and seting up hammer and anything else you might think i need to now i have never made a map so i need proper nooby tutorials

i have learnt how to build a box lol
how do you know what size to say make a house in respect of the model view ie what it looks like in game my box would probably make it look like the land of the giants

This might help...

player size - 72 units tall

average window from ground (at about waist ingame) - 40/48 units high

average wall - 16 units wide

max stair height - 16 units high
