I don't know if anyone has done this yet, I didn't see it. Which "custom" maps would you like to see in source first! Here are musts IMHO.

I personally want to be able to do para maps, a few of those, like Para_noia were awesome. That was awhile ago now tho, lol.

Advance is imho 'official' worthy in its current state, as for source, Id love to see a HD remake :) I think the map is brilliant

cant think of too many maps atm, theres been some great ones...

dod_fury by Greenhorn
an absolute favorite of mine and luckily got to contribute a tex or two to that. This is a very popular map.

alot of people backed off from making destroyed maps and went with the more clean look considering the textures available for the current 1.0-1.3 era. Dod_fury with the new sound engine and ability to make destroyed buildings realistic and detailed would make this map awesome.

Love this fast paced map and definately want to see a good source remake.

dod_hill, railroad.... I agree with these quite a bit, both classic maps and if the makers have any marbles in their craniums they'll release some sort of update for source given their long standing popularity for years.

I'd also like to see a remake of dod_zalec, but with more close quarters and building combat, instead of the bottlenecks. I'd like to see more objective maps with advancing spawns.

I originally loved advance, but it's far too slow paced since every path leads to a huge stalemate area that is impenitrable. If someone could make advance sans these areas it would be amazing. Otherwise...

I just love dod_hill_classic to bits but I have played the first and "V4" of hill too a remake of any of them will do.

Love to see dod_adrenalin4, along with dod_cherbourg and dod_zafod.

If they don't have Brits I just hope we can convert the models, weapons, menus and sounds.

Would get a bit boring without a change, on the other hand... Axis is always Germans I guess.

At least when a brit map is on you have the choice to experience the game in a different "atmosphere".

I get bored very quickly :)

I want to port maybe one of my maps, not sure which though. Probably belfort, make it a LOT more like a french village that I had envisioned. Removed a lot of the brick/foliage and replace it with rolling hills and fencing.

The most recent of my maps will probably be put on source, but with few changes, just things like rubble, lighting and the destroyed aspects of them.

I've got some creative ideas and plans for diversion and adrenalin on source, but time and committment to mapping isn't something i have a lot of unfortunately.

I'm happy to see Overlord and Dog1 on the lists. I don't think those will ever be re-made, however. They weren't bought by Valve and are thus left up to the custom mapping community. I guess they may be re-made by such as haircut, who re-ded Dog1 for 1.x retail, but I doubt we'll see a remake by Valve as such. I'd love to see Charlie redone for Source, with a number of fixes to the gameplay.


One can always hope for a cross between maps such as Charlie and Fakedawg, however ;)

you've got a good point FD. everytime I see a release thread for a remake of an old map, or a port of a CS map, I tend to roll my eyes a bit.

don't get me wrong, I know that its all hard work, but for me, the whole point to mapping and to running a game server, is to have something unique.

for instance with strom, when it looked like flash with a couple of hills, I pretty much decided I wasn't going to put it on my server, but once he got it to b4, it was something very unique and its now one of my favorite maps to come out in a long time.

that being said, I plan on redoing breakout for source :rolleyes: I tried to come up with something unique when I made it (think I succeeded), and I plan on making more maps for source, but I want to start with something that I already know what I want it to look like when I'm done. its going to be difficult to get so much detail into a map and make it look right that for the first one I want to concentrate on learning that technique without having to worry so much about the gameplay, routes, balance, ect...

yeah but FD i'm looking at this from the BFE perspective, we need as many maps as possible as quickly as possible, so waiting for new custom maps isn't always an option, were going to need some ports to get our first season of BFE on source going. However, we are starting a more driven in house mapping team to make new custom maps specific for our needs.

Astro...the problem is that these maps take months to produce...months. IMO that effort should be expended on new idea's. I doubt we'll see many of the current maps redone. If you look at map stats the four being released in a few weeks have far more players than all the others combined. Of all the maps in the "official" bag the only ones (outside of the big four) I would even consider would be:

1) dod_saints (very fast balanced map)
2) dod_merderet (larger version of dod_saints)
3) either glider or krafstoff (we should have at least one objective map)

As far as "new" maps I think we need a beach map and I'd love...love to have the guys build in bot support so you can play co-op...like all humans against bots. I'd like to see NPC bots used for spawn-protection and like to see special bots created that mimic the playing capabilities of the best CAL-I players. My love of bots is based on the inibility of a significant chunk of the worlds population unable to afford anything but dial-up service and who have other issues trying to be online over a broadband connection. Bots would answer that.

AFAIK theres four beach maps being worked on, mine, the surgeons and 2 other sorry can't remember their names. The other two I haven't seen picture of in ages.

Even the Dev team have re-done old maps.

People would like to see there old favorite maps up-graded to the the source engine ... simple as.

The only old ones I know of are the ones you'll see in the first release. The devs themselves have wanted to move towards new rather than rehash...they've done this for almost every single release. Maps get dropped and new ones are added. I don't see any change to that philosophy.

of course we don't and won't just want to sit in with the same old maps updated for source, however, its going to get boring waiting the 2-3 months for new maps, granted there are a lot of custom maps nearly ready to go made in CS : S but well just have to see, plus when it all comes down to it, it really does not hurt anything to bump up the old maps. I'm talking about not complete remakes, I agree thats a waste of time. I'm talking about having the most current rmf and just porting it directly to source. That would take maybe a week, week and half to do it right and add in some source flare.

wow! that would be pretty cool! actually have a machinegunner and a couple of snipers protecting spawn...especially if the MG'er could run out of ammo. the team would be responsible for keeping up thier own spawn protection. I wonder if that would really work out...sure would be cool if it did.

I know what FD means here. I get this sad, sick feeling in my gut when I look at Fortress Forever (http://www.fortress-forever.com/), the TFC Source thing. They're redoing all these old maps, they're using the old models (Saucified of course). It's like....I've moved on from that. If they were to offer something new, I think I could actually get excited about it.

They seem to want to make it exactly like TFC but with HL2 Physics.

This is why I keep playing DoD...always something new: officially and from the community.

THAT BEING SAID:

If I could pick just two, it would be my favorites, Campagne and Verdun.

yes i'm definitely torn about redoing old maps and just doing a new one. i've worked a lot on a switch port to make it more like what i want, but if i had to redo any map in source it would be volonne. except i would really move beyond the limits of HL1 engine and take full advantage of the terrain mapping (displacements) and better vis etc. I think I may actually "redo" volonne except it would be better...which in the end it will mean the map is actually a new map that may be somewhat inspired by volonne, but as FD said, does new things that haven't been done in DoD before.

i agree with porting maps (ofcourse making them better as well)
because there are just so many gems out there, with great gameplay and now potential great visuals, it would be a sin to forget them.

its like as if once the whole DVD thing came out, if we didnt bother to convert all previous films, and only use DVD for upcoming films, so many classics would be gone.
