I made some flags for some friends that have their logo on it. They want it to download to the client's side and replace the default dod flags. How do they do this w/out the same flags showing up on different servers? I dont know the first thing about mapping (I'm a MSA man myself). Thanks guys.

they name thier new flag model something different, like flag2.
then they would have to use ripent (or similar program) to replace the flag model in the maps on thier server with the flag2. this only has to be done on the server side, no client DL of the editted maps is needed. then just add thier new flag model to the .res file and it will work.

to explain a bit, the server decides what entities are needed for a map, not the client. so you could edit the entities on say, flash and I could connect and see the changes, then connect to another server and see the defaults. hope that makes sense.

what they want to do is really quite simple.

no problem. once you have the .ent file, just do a search and replace for the flag model, then compile it back in. it SHOULD  go smoothly.

After talking w/ them, we decided to just have them download the flags.mdl to there mapmodels folder (where they would see the same flags on any server). Only problem is, we cant get it to download the flags.mdl to the client side. Can you or someone tell me exactly what to do w/ the flags.mdl to make it download and be seen ingame?

I'd be pretty pissed if my flags (or anything else for that matter) was changed without my consent just by connecting to a server. Really not user friendly and I would automatically delete that server off my fav's list.

Why don't you guys just propose the download on their website and explain to those who want it how to install it. Everyone's been doing it for years, and the guys that are interested already know how to do it...

I doubt that you can make it download. with it being the same name, the client side will think that they already have the file and not pull it down.

*edit* fuyo has a point too about changing the models so that it is there on other servers. you're better off doing it the first way.

OK, that's what I was thinking too. I'll talk to you tonight on msn and we'll get that ripent thing going. Thanks again.

EDIT: We got everything worked out w/ the program you recommended. Thanks again for your help Josh. :)
