Quickie renders --
Second model. Probably won't find it's way into DOD, because the thing's reload process takes too long IRL. Maybe if I find a work around, though.
Thought I'd step up on the challenge factor since doing the KG9 (still haven't textured/animated...). But this one turned out to be way easier. Maybe I'm getting better. :) Still couldn't help making it too high-poly at 3000 triangles, unoptimized. Something to work on.
I do have one questions though -- there are these indentations on the side of the gun. They are fairly deep, so I am wondering if a normal map could achieve the amount of shading to make it look realistic. Anyone think so? Or should it be modeled? Check it out --

You could always convert it into Han Solo's blaster, and make your own custom reload process.

Lol, not a bad idea. Perhaps I will...but I'm a fan of consistency, so unless I convert DOD to a Star Wars mod...nah, too much work.

Someone already managed to work a Broomhandle into DoD a long time ago, with the stripper-clip reloading and all. It was a really sweet anim, though some people freaked out and said it wasn't supposed to reload like that.
I don't know if it's still available anywhere. I don't seem to have it anymore, myself, though I used it for a long time.

It's not so much the loading as it's the unloading. From what I've read, you have to remove the floorplate, spring, and follower, let the bullets drop out, replace the floorplate et. al., and then load via stripper clip. Or, you have to cycle the bolt individually to eject each of the cartridges (edit: remaining cartridges, ty Wolf), and then reload via stripper. Takes too long in either case.
There were some rare detachable 20 round magazine variations, though. Then I could use it as a BAR replacement... Hrm...no.
It sucks, because it's a kickass gun.

If the casings aren't being ejected as the shots are fired, how can the bullets be moving upwards into the firing position? The firing mechanism doesn't move down along the line of bullets... The thing's got a spring in the bottom to push them up. The container's just attached to the gun, like a Garand or a K98.
Put a stock on it and it could be a sweet German semi-auto rifle replacement [I forget its name right now; haven't been able to play in bloody ages].
I like front grip styles on these (http://www.sturmgewehr.com/bhinton/HK_Plant_Mauser_Museum/BroomhandlePrototype.jpg). That top one could be an MP44 replacement.

Yeah, but if the user decides to reload mid-clip, then there's the problem again. But then again -- duh -- I just realised that the Enfield and K98 have this problem with the reload animations anyway (IIRC) -- so I guess it's no biggie.

Yeah, I was originally planning on making the carbine version actually. Very cool. But again, for authenticity's sake, I would be hesitant to do it because they only came in 6, 10, 20, and 40 round mags (why didn't they just make 30??). At least as far as I've found.
Maybe I'll just say screw it! Screw authenticity! Yeah, I'm gonna do it. It'll be a while since I don't know much about texturing, UV mapping, or animating, but I'm gonna do it.
You should make a Luger carbine. I think I read that it came in 30 round magazines.

Sweet! ^_^ I'll look forward to seeing it!
Unfortunately, like I said, I've either been on dial-up or satellite Internet connections for a looooong time and just have not been able to play. No end in sight, so I probably won't be able to enjoy it first-hand. :\
I can appreciate pretty pictures, though.

someone actually converted Flakk's C96 with the anims? dammit, I requested a convert for that I don't know how many times, and every time I was told that it couldn't be done because the arms are too low-poly or something like that.

Damn, I just downloaded that (csnation.net (http://www.csnation.net/skins/view_skin.php?id=5662)) to see how they did things, give myself something to base off of, and they did a really nice job. But I'm a bit confused where Flakk put all those polies -- 4300. I don't feel so bad about 3000 now -- in fact I might add a couple to touch it up a bit or do the carbine version.
Wth though -- seven people credited to that one model. Sheez, I'm doing it all by myself. :o :p
