What's this mean?

That basically means: "Uninstall your decompiling software or your HDD will burn down in 30 minutes"

lol fu**** spawm! edit your decompile settings to: best matching texutres and compile in .map format!

Or even better: decompile, just don't rip.

If it wasn't for decompiling I would have never learned to map.
And i'm pretty sure that could go for a lot of other mappers around here.

It's God's warning for doing nasty things.

agreed...I hardly learned anything from decompiling a map before since they're so buggy anyway...

Its like copying someone els on the test, sure you get a higher mark than if you did it yourself. BUT DO YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS TAUGHT? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! the smart people can just about begin to figure it out but you will always miss a detail.

If you want to know how to do something THATS WHAT THE FORUMS ARE FOR!

HOw can you learn from decompiling the map??? When all the brushwork has gone haywire and splitted up??

Urm...download some clean open-source maps! Download some clean open-source prefabs and brushworks.

There are many out there!

Decompiler = useless tool (except maybe if you need the layout to follow and remake). But since tons of brushes are being generated, it will lag up the computer system and make everything so untidy....would rather use my head to imagine and remake the layout.

Entities. I still remember decompiling my first dod map in the 1.3 days to see what entities I needed for my map to run.

Not all the brushwork gets messed up as it is. I learned some ways to keep poly low on a destructed area by taking a look at avalanche when it came out.

I'm not gonna bother defending my point of view on it anymore though, it's obvious people stand on different sides of the fence. While it has been discussed for ages with usually no positive results. :p

Decompiling is fine to see how something was done but do not try to recompile a decompiled map

yea, i guess entities would be useful.

Decompiling does have educational value- as others have said with regard to entities (which are complicated complex things); but decompiling and re-compiling a map is a bit cheeky, unless u just leave it on ur hard drive and don't distribute it.

Decompiling should be OK if u re-compile just the entities with the -noents command, just to change the gameplay of a map; or convert a map from a another HL mod to DOD (dod_dust/ dod_2fort anyone?).

The thing is that any recent dod map won't decompile anyway...and all those conversions exist...they were done years ago...and they belong away in their respective mods. I don't see how it can be a learning experience when it never works...
