[MWIP] British Airborne for 1.0

I did have another thread about these models but it got spammed to death so I figured I'd try again.
These were the airborne models that I was making for 3.1 but held onto until 1.0 came out.
I've been playing with them for a week or two now and although they work in 1.0 I want to tweak them a little bit. However I thought I would let you know I havent abandoned them.
Primarily I want to re-skin the jacket and trousers as I'm not happywith them right now and I have a texture error (actually a HL bug) to fix on the head when the head gear comes off.
I indend to release a beret version and a helmet version you can choose between plus a Canadian version too.
On one other note, Leroy, the black Bren gunner from the 3.1 version. As I cant change the skin on the v_model hands on a per-class bases any more I wont be able to have black hands in view when playing his character.
Does this bother anyone that much that I should retire Leroy and replace him with a caucasian?

great, and I say who cares about Leroy, if it really bothers people that much, they can just
a. Replace his face with a caucasian on their own (hlmv style)
b. Get a reskin for the v model of the bren with 'black' hands.
Either way its not that big a problem in my eyes.

Glad to hear its not dead. Im far too busy with my Rangers to actually do any brits, so this might be the only model file that gets into my DoD folder that I havent edited, hacked, or changed drastically. Everything else is default.
I think it looks fantastic. And its not to say you can mix and match headgear. Just attach each headger to the head. You can customize each helmet then, instead of using the supplied submodel stuff. I dont care if I can blow his helmet off anyway, i think that effect is kinda cheesy. As for Leroy, let him stay. I think you should just release an optional bmp for people who would rather see a caucasian Bren Gunner in the zip, so people with HLMV can swap em out. I dont mind seeing every bren gunner black, and then me being the only white guy with a bren, but it would look strange to pull out my Bren and see black ahnds, then swap to my webley, and see white hands.
Excellent work, im impressed with your attention to detail and your patience in making these a quality model.

Be sure to release a beret helmet replacement (for when the beret gets shot off).
How about a STEN model with the foregrip? Would that be possible?
Otherwise it won't matter since someone will release it sooner or later.
The Skins looks great by the way.

The foregrip looks a little unaccurate (I think). It looks like the thompson grip.

I remember finding the thread on the old forums and it was about 15 pages long or summat like that, and I started reading it... by the time I got to page 14 I was almost as excited as when Leeds were 3-0 up against Deportivo in the Champions League Qtr a few years ago... and then you decided to wait till v1.0 to release... :( I'm sure they're gonna be worth the wait m8 (lol that rhymes)

Just so you dont all think its gone to sleep.
I rushed the models last time as I was trying to get them released before
the end of 3.1 and as a result the poly count was pretty high and the modelling
pretty ropey to be honest.
I've started from scratch with the base body model and made sure I did it
right this time.
None of the polys break into the inside of the model and theres no gaps so this guy
is almost like a molded piece.
Its NOT finished yet, theres some tweaking to do for general shape and
I need to test it against the skeleton before I put any kit on it or texture it.
Poly count so far is 893.

And its just the base body part anyway and it only took me and hour to re-assemble it.
The rest of the bits and pieces I'll reuse from the old model and 99% of the textures too.
It wont take that long.
Just so you know, my high poly version was 1800 polys total which makes it more
of a medium poly than high.
As I said, so far I'm at 893 polys so the way things are going this wont be more
of a load of your system than the default 1.0 models.

Yes "Red Devil" replacements for the default Brits would be awesome!
Too bad we dont' have a 'brit-para' class yet :>
A "brit-para" class along with some Arnhem and Oosterbeek maps would be great.
Also come to think of it a "brit-para" class with a "Pegasus Bridge" map would be nice. "Pegasus Bridge" was capture in the early hours of Overlord by a reinforced company of British paras riding gliders.

ah god damnit. i was lookin forward to these. but as i always say...

think of it this way fellas: you REALLY gotta take a leak, but you cant go, beacuse your doing something that restrics you from going to pee. so you wait and wait, and your eyes are watering, and your about to pass out, and your rolling on the floor and what not.
so FINALLY after 3 hours of holding it in, you let it all out (in the toilet of course). and damn, does it feel GOOD!
so the point im making here is, weve waited for these models for so long, and weve been waiting, and waiting, and waitng.... but hey, its gonna be awesome when they finally come out, cuz they get better with time. this allows Trp. to make em even better! and it will be ALL the better when we finally get em. :P
so be patient, these are looking better than ever, cant wait to see the skins on the new model.

Actually Taffeh made dod_pegasus and submitted it for 1.0 but it didnt get accepted (long story). I actually made the horsa glider model for the map and it was his map that inspired me to start these models in the first place.

Anyway, quick status update. I added the large map pocket to the pants (its modelled in the leg, not just in the texture) and fixed the collar and have started to map it to the 1.0 skeleton so I can test it and tweak the joints for animating.
Current polycount = 914.

Good job though mate, they look very smooth. Brits seem to be underskinned by default, not the amount of detail as in the axis, which is the dod teams favourite.

Well he did lose a large portion of it in a hard-disk crash and during B4 testing, almost no-communication about it was recieved from the DoD team so he wasnt able to develop it further.
But I'm sure Taffeh can tell you the full story.

Getting there - I'm sick and got some severe motivation problems at the mo.
The model didn't take long, just the skin is taking me AGES to do. Still the P37 webbing belt turned out ok.
Ignore the boots, their pants. I just slapped something on them so they weren't white.

I remember when you released the pics of the 3.1 version. I was totally blown away with the animations you had added like the properally held sten, the bren gunner shooting from the hip and the great ilde animation sounds.
Are you planning to add any other such 'revolutionary' features with this version?
