how do you find map files

I downloaded a map from a server and needed to know what all files are associated with the map so I can make a .res file.

How can I find out this?

ripent?

should give you a text file with a list of all the entities in the map...i'm no expert on this though.

no txt, just a .bsp file

You misunderstood him - ripent is a program that creates a text file from the *.bsp file. The text file will list all the entities for the map (which includes the models, sprites, wads, sounds used in the map).

Colonel Forbin listed a link to a better program than ripent:

It is a lot easier to use and it doesn't crash like ripent.

You could also use resgen to create your res files - it might list more files than are truly necessary, but it will at least get you started. Here is the link to resgen:
