i know this is an extreme n00b question but ill ask anyway. :D

I'm making a map for the purpose of playing around with ragdolls, and would like to make a pit (for obvious reasons) but im not sure how to separate the part of the wall i have selected. (in this case the floor)

Help would be appreciated

Id be glad to help but that picture is so small I cannot tell what you have circled. Thats about the size of an avatar amigo.

post an attachment of a JPG instead of a bmp to save mucho space too.

i made a box extending underneath of the room, made it hollow, and deleted the top.
But i cant seem to delete the section of the floor.

dont ever use the hollow or carve feature. never ever use it.

dave, you use the clipping tool (third icon from the bottom) to cut the floor into pieces, then delete the piece you don't want. remember, you can't make concave pieces (shapes where 2 or more sides somewhat face each other) so your floor will be made up of at least 3 pieces surrounding your hole.

I would suggest you check out some "first room" tutorials. they will teach you some of the basics like this. www.mardymouse.co.uk is a good source for beginner tutorials and information.

Oh, I understand. But seeing as how all you wanted to do is play with ragdoll physics, I figure it's easier to just download a ~3mb file and play with that instead.

My suggestion would be to just make two rooms, 1 smaller one right underneath 1 large one, and just cut (well, dont actually *cut*) a hole in the floor/ceiling seperating the two.

errr ... I don't see any rudeness from k][LLrDAvE.

Anyway ...

Try josh_u[RR] suggestion of using the Clipping tool.

Another way is to just make the floor up of more then one brush. One square/rectangle either side of the hole make sure they touch each other and extend to the wall to complete the whole floor, just like the single brush you have at the moment.
