My first foray into plane modeling. This is about an hours work on it so far. Its a little bit different modeling this way, it really forces you to pay attention to detail or else you screw yourself in the long run. Hope to have this done next weekend so I can get it out to a Mapper.

The grips should not extent so far in thickness from the slide, and the slide should also hang out to the sides of the frame.
The rear of the slide, where the hammer goes, should be hollowed all the way to the bottom, so the shape of the rear roughly resembles an upside down U.
This is the problem with this type of modeling, some things can be unclear.

Is a great set of references for this pistol which should be able to help you make this into an awesome model.
I hope you don't take this criticism too harsh, but it is great that you are at a point where everything should be fixable, instead of getting it to the point where it is mapped and changing it would be unbearable.

I've been around a long time..... 1.3 beta to be exact I've just taken a hiatus since Steam came out. It takes alot more than some constructive criticism to hurt my feelings, thats what this part of the forums is for :) I appreciate the link....google image search can only accomplish so much :) I fudged parts of it that I couldnt see clearly from my reference pictures and made it like I thought it should look. Depending on how this goes I'm gonna try some other WWII weapons using this method. Any suggestions are welcome everyone.

That's just one of the several consequences caused by the CS Fansites, in this particular case, the thing to blame are the "skin sections" of said sites.
Anyway, that model oughts to be great, keep up the good work! :)

Very weak for a game like DoD. (and if it's still in the format that Close Combat uses, it won't work properly either.)

Didnt get to work on it much this week....Had finals and my final animation project to do. I decided to re-model the top slide as I found a few errors that would have screwed up the model when I smoothgrouped it. Progress Shots of new slide.

After much hemming and hawing I've decided that I cant really do too much more to the model that cant be accomplished by skinning so I went ahead and smoothgrouped it. I've got like 3 versions but this is the one I think Im gonna stick with. If anyone spots something that needs changing let me know.

Yeah I swear I just noticed it when you pointed it out lol. I get too attached to my work when I do it and it takes an outsiders view of it to make me see the biggest of things lol. Ok I fixed that, now onto mapping it.

Nice to see your back Joe, and your work is looking good as ever.
We gonna see some Commando goodness for DoD:s? ;)

You know it Ska :) I've been working on the commandos off and on in class this past semester and working on adding highpoly goodies and remapping and re-skinning the textures. Sniper class will have a WWII version of a ghillie suit, and each class will have a different uniform/helmet. As far as this model goes, I need someone to UVMap it for me as I cant for the life of me get it correct. If you want it email me at LtJoeAnderson@aol.com.

Yeah he's an oldie, like he said. I used to tell him repeatedly back in the day how much he sucked cos I hoped he'd go away but it only encouraged him. :p
