First map - need help

Hey all, I'm working on my first map right now, and I know it won't be great but I need some help with things like tieing entities to objects, and making a skybox, and small things like that. I have expierence with mapping for other games but this is my first time using VHE and DOD. If someone could add me to AIM that would be best. If not, then I would like a link to a tutorial for those things. or at least deffinitions for all the attributes of the entities and object properties. Thanks!

il ansew one of your questions here... for the skybox just make the box and add the "sky" texture to it. then goto map properties and change the skyname to whatever sky you want

Not actully a good way to do a skybox box PanFrie. It lacks any VIS blocking abillity to start with.

I have some tutorial maps just for DoD and also some complete DoD maps for people to look at.

also you can try google, don't forget that you can also take a look at sites like http://countermap.counter-strike.net/ which is accually a counter-strike site.

it doesn't really matter, because it's the same engine, the only thing is that dod has some special entities. but to make doors, elevators, skyboxes, lights, breakable glass etc. it's all the same.

Those are nice sites, but I still didn't find a skybox tutorial. I'll be looking on google here soon for one.

Theres not auctualy skybox like in UT or um... Q3? Its just a roof, or a cover over the level with the 'sky' texture put on it. But a good tip is not to make a box around the map because that makes horrible rendering speeds and bad lighting...

instead of looking for a skybox tutorial try looking for vis blocking tuts ;)

Exactly. Start off the help menu within Hammer! It's very well written (with images for children).
Although HL1 mapping is very similar to HL:S mapping, may i suggest you to go directly on source (even if dod is not available).
