func_ladder dont work on hl2:dm, only in cs:s i hope dod:s too

tip: open the dm_lockout ref map..to see the ladder entities working
or use this ladder prefab on "Blocktool"->

if it's for dod (assuming it will use the same as cs:S) u can use the texture based entity 'ladder texture'. Build a brush just infront of your ladder (how u would for current dod) but instead of making it a func_ladder, just cover the brush in the ladder texture.

This doesnt work if your building in HL2 DM, only in cs:s.

thanks blu, i appreciate that, except, The title of my thread says HL2DM............

And yes you can build ladders in HL2DM because dm_overpass to name one of many, has several ladders.

I know its not called func_ladder anymore but you get what im looking for.

So, if anyone knows how to make one in HL2DM id appreciate it.

Happyernst im not following what you mean

yea i know lol, but u said it was guna be a dod: s map. The ladder texure is far quicker and easier than the Hl2 ladder system. But if u insist on building it with HL2 DM, then here u go ;):

I've seen that tutorial. First place I looked. Never worked and heres why:

What valve is forgetting to tell you:

1. The entity name wont appear. You have to select your top and bottom pieces and type "func_useuableladder" It wont become the entity until you hit apply. Since it wasnt showing up, I assumed that the entity was not available in HL2DM.

2. Pretty sure the bottom and top brushes have to have the 'ladder' texture but not 100% sure. I had used 'trigger' before and it didnt work. Which is why I posted. So heads up.

3. make a few more brushes like the tutorial and type info_ladderdismount. Once again, the entity doesnt show up on the list (annoying, and makes you think youve typed something wrong.)

Hit apply and your brush will appear pink, then you know its working correctly.

I find HL2DM more condusive to faster testing, which is why I prefer using it to test out my maps. And...no matter how good CS:S looks or sounds, I still hate it. Thanks blu.

I sincerely hope the dev team goes with the ladder texture and thats all it will take. Quite annoying to have to make ladder dismount stuff.

yea exactly, it's also annoying to actually get them to work withought that jitery leap u do when getting on and off them.

I don't know much about this but I have the func_useableladder entity in my list and the info_ladder_dismounts entities as well.

Remember ... It's a Point entity not a Solid entity.

And as happyernst suggested, just open up sdk_dm_lockdown.vmf map an check the ladders in that. They have all the entities needed to make ladders for HL2: DM maps.

Also the ladder_simple prefab has all the entities as well. The prefabs in HL2: DM arn't just brush based prefabs. Really easy to place stuff in a map actully.

Thanks for point that out happyernst.

the new ladder system is bad imho :P ild one works much better so just use that. I know for dystopia we just use whatever the new ladder brush is called and tie it to the ladder entity, havent touched source mapping for a while tho :P

-- Ladder Sample Map --

Well if your lazy like I am, you may download this tutorial map for a hl2dm map.

Its directly copied from dm_lockdown. Its tested in-game and most importantly, working.

Download HL2DM Ladder Sample Map (http://voodoo.dssghq.net/hl2dm_ladder.zip)
