[WIP] dod_breakout

I'd first like to thank everyone here for thier help. I know I've asked a lot of questions over the past couple of months but this map is turning out decent I think (at least for my first map).

this map started out as a stalag escape map, but I quickly found out that stalags are flat and boring. so I made the stalag just the allies spawn, added a forest (with tunnel access), small trainyard, and a couple of large axis buildings.

anyway, here are some screenshots as I near completion.

we've run a couple of beta tests on my clans server and gameplay seems pretty good. there are a couple of areas that are pushing the limits on r_speeds but hopefully I can get them down a bit more before release. I'm hoping to put the finishing touches on and be ready for release in a week or so.

special thanks to watchtower for the barbedwire model and random for finding me a nice forest texture.

seems a bit all over the place doesn't it? you're in the forest, then you're in a castle, then you're in some kinda camp, and then a trainstation.

those stairs look really rediculous in the castle. they're up too high on the floor i think and then they come down strangely on the other side.

the stalag1 picture looks like the r_speeds could be pretty high with all the boxes.

it seems odd to me because some parts look very good while others look pretty squarish and kinda bland.

i like the armory idea. that looked interesting to me.

as far as first maps go this is a pretty good effort. first maps are never pretty. just keep at it.

yeah, its not quite so bad as you actually play it, but you are right. the map turned out a lot bigger than I had originally planned. I'll post up the DL in a week or so for you guys to really tear it up :D

lol! yeah, you are witnessing my learning prossess as a mapper. the stuff I did later looks much better than the earlier stuff. I'd completely redo some sections if I didn't have other ideas that I wanted to work on. I also had help from some others, so style changes are apparent if you know what you are looking at.

Im very impressed Josh, this blows my first map out of the water by a mile! Glad I could hook you up with the barbed wire, it made a big difference didnt it?

But, I honestly dont like the way the forest looks, the sunbeams in hl 1 are pretty cheesy, Id nix that and try to get some more natual lighting consistant with the rest of the map. I think itll make a big difference.

Your PoW camp looks good, and again, for a first map, this is quite good. I also commend you on how well you've taken feedback, critism, and turned it into a better map.

Your close, but take your time. Each day you wait to release its that much better.

Good luck and looking forward to your ub3r l33t 1st release.
