Alaaaaaaarrrrrmmmm!
Das-Boot! (http://img38.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img38&image=ixb11cb.jpg)

5200 polys which is on par with the HL2 Buggy model and one high-poly CS:S player model. Bear in mind that that this beast is about 75m long which is about 3000 mapping units
The poly count will probably drop under 5000 when I've finished a bit more optimisation and rendered some of detail to normal maps.
I can see this being used in a custom map which requires the allies to capture a harbor/docking station. And this being the last objective. Very nice indeed Jed.

Well I got it to compile... (http://img159.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img159&image=hlmvuboat5va.jpg)
Obviously its not skinned or optimised yet but at least it can be dropped into hammer so mappers can start building around it.

LOL. How, have you not noticed the lack of torpedo tubes or cannons? Maybe it had a big ass bayonet on the front and poked a whole in it.

I didn't think you wanted to talk about that in public ;)

I love the stubbornness (that's a lot of double letters!) that you have in insisting on making U-boats! Haha, somebody better use one of these.

I've got Deja Vu, didn't you post a sub a while ago?
Somebody has to pick this up and make a james bond style sub bunker map.

For DoD 1.3, yes. I believe this will be for Source.

I'm getting lots of practice mapping - strictly so that when DoD:S comes out I can spring right into making some decent maps.
But, this model is utterly perfect for one of my ideas... and it's very, very similar to yours ez. :)

Been a bit slow but I did make a start UV mapping and texturing.
http://img237.echo.cx/img237/3030/ixbt46mf.jpg
The holes and the anchor look a little more 3D as I've got a fairly basic normal map applied to it although you only really see that with DX9 cards in game. I've still got to finalise the normal map and do the specular map to give it the "wet" look in places.
I have actually done a test compile and got it in game as a static and dynamic model. The dynamic version floats, sort of, but has a tendancy to capsize and because of its large mass and hitbox pushes you away so you cant actually stand on it. You can stand/walk on the static version though.
I also got dynamic "ropes" working with the model a-la "Dog" in Hl2. The aerials are all Source rope systems built into the model so the mapper doesnt have to do anything. It also means they flex and sway with wind or the movement of the boat.
I would post in-game pictures but these day every time I do people think its DoD:S and I get into trouble.

well all you have do about that is
make a big watermark over it saying
"NOT DOD:S!!"
But good work on the skin
i need alot of traning with ps before i can
do stuff like this ...
i think i need to buy a painting tablet ..
it's sucks useing the mouse (my mouse suck :)) ..

Its not as hard as you think.
That texture is just 3 solid colour layers on top of each other, some noise and a lot of dabs with a dirt and grunge brush. If you use the layer blend options and colours correctly you can do stuff like that very easily.
