I guess I'm far enough along that I want to show the basic overview so far.

I haven't picked a name yet, but I'm leaning toward dod_stalag, or dod_breakout.

basically the allies spawn is a prison camp and at the beginning of the round the axis side of the map gets bombed, so the allies try to escape. axis try to regain control of the camp, basic ctf.

the bottom half of the map is basically flat, but the tunnel leads into the forest which is approx 200 units lower than the rest of the map.

you can see the curve I just added to the road for vis blocking. it doesn't make as much sense realizm wise, but I'll have to live with it. :p

fps is looking pretty good now, but I need to vis block the allies spawn area better, it is still showing up from the other side of the armory, and that is slowing things down.

I know you can't tell much from an overview, but there it is.

holy crap! that can't be good! looks like I still got work to do...

BTW when I type r_speeds 1 they show up in console, but not in game. it always shows 0's in game. what am I doing wrong?

it works for me, i think maybe you need to use developer mode to get that to show up but 15k epoly is just wow, you get what 0.000001 FPS?

not to mention the 1500 wpoly too, i think a good rule for hl1 is keep around 500 area but my maps go up to around 800, that combines with a large epoly is bad, you can use a lot more epolys in an area which has low wpoly and vice versa but keep them down nice and low so you dont get poor fps

shoot you can go up to 1000wpoly at your worst spot and be ok, a few official maps do. you just have to remember to keep the epoly low at that area. Balance.

Try removing the minimap from the hud.

thanks haircut, that was the trick. btw, a little vis blocking later and I get these numbers from the same spot:

still not all the way there, but the vis blocking I did didn't affect the players view at all, just blocked off over and under buildings. you can't really see it in this pic, but the wireframe shows it is still drawing a lot more than it needs to. I've been doing everything to this point with vis blockers, I might have to start in with the hint brushes soon.

I also removed a couple of extra models that were not necessary.
