Ok, since my last thread didn't work out, here it is again. After Italy's armistice in 1943 with the Allies, the army split into the nazi loyal RSI, and the Co-Belligerants, or Army of the South with their loyalties staying with the king and the Western Allies.

The Army of the South was largely supplied by their new British allies, making them look rather British themselves. So I've re-textured the default British player models to resemble the Bersagliere Bn. of the Legnano Combat Group. I chose the Bersagliere because of the distincive plumes of feathers they displayed on their helmets, and the rather elite status of the Bersagliere in general.

I've added the shoulder and collar insignia of the Bersagliere as well as the distinctive feather plumes and unit stencil on the helmet. I've also recolored the default textures to something closer to the refrence pics I have. I never rally liked the default colors of the Brits anyway.

Very interesting. Though I must admit the uniforms of occupied countries (France, Poland, etc) were pretty dull since they all used borrowed equipment. I've got a book on modern military uniforms (1945 - present) and I swear the world's uniforms are one third American equipment, one third British, and one third Soviet. WWII was really the last time individual countries each had distinct uniforms and equipment. It's all so boring now :)

Schlex, I knew that, just a typo ;)

Yeah, many nations field rather uninspired uniforms, an that is a shame, but these here were just a quick job to get people interested in later Italian packs I have planned, and a test of how I could get that feather plume to look. My next set will include completely original models, with unique Italian uniforms and equipment, no more of this lend-lease stuff.

Actually that's a WWI picture I believe, phokus. The British didn't use puttees on their legs in WWII but rather the shorter cloth anklets. Italian WWII helmets didn't have that crest (I think those are patterned after French helmets), and the cut of their tunics look very WWI style too. Another dead give away is that everyone is wearing gas-mask bags on their chests.

Yeah, that image is from WWI, but it's exceedingly difficult to find any good informaion on anything regarding Italy in WWII without knowing the language, and even then resources are limited. Anyway, I'll give this thread one last bump to show a picture of a Bersagliere from WWII.
