[Source Util] 3DSMax 6/7 VTF support

I posted this on VERC last night but figured I'd stick it here too.

Its not really that much use as I figure everyone is using TGA's anyway but I did it as an excercise is decoding the VTF format and I needed practice at writing Max plugins.

Anyway, stick it in the plugin folder and max can use VTF files directly as textures without having to convert them to TGA format first.

There is a small bug where certain VTFs (usually small, DXT1 compressed ones) can make Max crash but I'm looking into it.

Photoshop SDK isnt available unless your a (very well) paid up member of the Adobe developer network.

Jojo, I'll do some housekeeping.

Question: Do the textures for things have to be in .vtf format? Cause it just seems like to much effort to convert all the stuff. Is there a way I can just leave it in .tga and the engine will recognize it?

Nope. Because VTF contains MIP maps, animation frames if needed, multiple faces if cubemap and header flags telling the materials engine how to deal with it.

Basicalyl VTF format is a slightly optimised DDS format to speed up the process of working with DirectX

or something i can steal from the cs:s v_models.vtf into dod1.3 mdl files,so i can use the hands/sleeves in dod1.3

Yes, Jed. Have you had any occasions of converting DOD models to CS:S? Because I'd love to have Splinters Kar in CS:S :D

I think really hi-poly dod models would look great on source. And it would bring more of a DOD:S feeling
