noob skinning question

I want to add clan patches and helmet art to my dod player models. This is probably quite complicated as easy as it sounds. Can someone enlighten me?

I found an informative skinning tutorial using the search, but unfortunately it is dated 2002. That was long before the Steam plauge, so I am unsure if that method still works.

First download Jed's Half Life Model Viewer v1.3, it can be found here (http://www.wunderboy.org/3d_games/utils/hlmv.php)

[If you have all the DoD files extracted via GCFScape]
Open it up, go to File > Open Model

-Open any player model

-Click on the textures tab

-Use the dropdown box to find say the sleeves and the helmet (or whatever you want to add the logo to)

-For all textures you want to edit, click export texture when that texture is selected in the drop down box
-Save it as whatever you want

-Open Photoshop or Paintshop Pro

-Load one of the .bmp textures you saved

-In Photoshop go to Image > Mode > RGB Color

-Now open all decals you want to add to the skin

-Copy/paste onto the skin (Scale down or up as needed)

-Position how you want it

-Go to Image > Mode > Indexed Color

-On the popup menu make sure the dropdown box under Forced is set to None

-Click Ok, then save as .bmp as normal

-Go back into HLMV, select the same texture you edited

-Click Import Texture and select the file

-Repeat for all textures you want to edit

-Save model over previous one

[If you have not extracted day of defeat.gcf]

- Download GCFScape (Google search, Nem's site is down)

-Close Steam

-Open GCFScape

-Go to File > Open and go to the following file
/Steam/SteamApps/day of defeat.gcf

-Right click on the dod/models

-Click extract

-Extract to /Steam/SteamApps/day of defeat/dod

-Refer to above

*If you have not already made patches and helmet art just make it on the texture

I'd actually be scared of the day when people read the included README, release notes or F.A.Q on the HLMV page.

I could make HLMV cure cancer and no-one would notice.

well I had previously used HLMV..and just needed a newer version so I didn't read any documentation..

however if you could make HLMV cure cancer... youd be god!
