dod_berlin45 [WIP]

Now I know for WIP your supposed to have in game screenshots but this is a WIP and I need some opinions on the 2D basic layout I've designed.

This map was done in photoshop in exact measurements as to how I had the original design on 0.3" spaced graph paper.

Since this is the basic layout not much to describe but it will be an oridnary capture map, the fountain will be a 3 man cap zone. I plan to have nearly every building with atleast one window (I'm aiming for a realisitic urban war enviorment.

I'm not sure If I should make the map as a bombed out crushed Berlin or pretty, less accurate Berlin

Anyway heres the map, tell me what you think.

P.S I've never released a map for DoD before, I'm a former CS mapper and I've just been learning DoD mapping techniques and entities. Also on the legend it says Room, it should be Building.

Layout seems to be VERY simple, dod maps are usually more complicated (even earlier anzio was).

There are no more objectives or flags positions, so it's hard to tell it it have a chance to work well or not.

There are no more paths thru houses (I see just 2, how Allies can get to street in upper area without going near Axis spawn.

Axis spawn seems to be too open to fire from outside, in contrast to CS spawn area have to be well protected, cause people are spawning here thru whole game.

I would advice you to make quick map with simple textures and no details and test with your friends.

That is just a basic layout I am going to add in many house paths.
I am going to add spawn protection for axis and allies, and I will post an updated version with objectives and some more paths through buildings.

Also does anyone know where I can find some good building textures, such as doors, windows, walls that all go together? I was looking through the textures and all I could find are 256x256 pre textured buildings and then there were a couple doors that matched nothing...

I've almost finished with the basic layout of the allied spawn and I'll post some screenshots, but if anyone could help me with the triangular roof problem (see other post) it would make it look a lot better..

well, berlin in 1945 was bombed out, it was in germany, not italy, most of the buildings had 2 or more floors

I know it was bombed out, and where did you get italy? heh the thing is there are way too many bombed out maps out there...every urban map I see is bombed out, yes it may be realistic but IMO it does not look very good, I wan't to make a nice map, I don't want most of my buildings bombed, I will make some of them as such, maybe even most later on, however for now, most buildings will be intact (I'm trying to see how the gameplay of the map will work out before I go into major detail) and every buidling so far except maybe 1 has 2 floors...


I'm not basing this map on historical accuracies..

If you are basing your Italy assumption on the textures, please give me a place to more accurate Berlin textures...I don't like the textures much either but I have hardly any stand-alone door and window textures to place on custom textured buildings so I just had to use some official dod map textures..if you have any links to good building textures please post them..

I am going to be added barbed wire, rubble etc... to the current areas before actually building anymore

Looks good. Rubble and vehicles may be good.

Not matter what map you make people on this forum always say 'could be a bit more ruined'.

^^^^^listen to the man, berlin was a lot of brick, these textures look verymuch like italy and nothing like berlin.

alright well, anyone know of alot of dark brick colors? I'm prety sure they didn't use red brick..so does anyone have any places to download good textures?

Kid-A, I am currently working on rubble..I used a env_model of rubber but whenever I make the invisible func_walls it really kills the r_speed..anyway to make accurate walls around and env_model without raising r_speeds?
