I've got quite far with my 1st map but am now a little lost. I think it's OK but don't really know where to take it, eg what to add? as I feel it lacks a little character.

I have tried to make this map with clan wars in mind, hence:
-Bright light
-Light Textures
-Thin Walls
-Relatively few 'camping spots'
So don't suggest changes opposite to these.

Street texture in particular I would like suggestions for. Preferably from default textures but I'd accept a custom suggestion.

Looks good, but it needs a more "destroyed feeling"

Could you post a picture with the basic layout?

Oh no, but that would mean rubble and destroyedness, which means dark spots, minor clipping problems and worst of all models and clips. These would instantly make clanners not like the map!

:p

No. Destroyed feeling just for show-off. Make more holes in the buildings, but make them inacessible.

And if you can make rubble without the respective holes, then you can make holes without the repective rubble. ;)

:p I actually have less destroyed areas to reduce rspeeds. Donner is destroyed and is a clan staple. However as a new mapper I don't know how much desrtuction you can add before lag becomes a factor.

Destroyed also takes longer and noone seems to complain about the lack of rubble on anzio for example.

Good job!
To bright for my taste, and yeah you do need another street
tex, as it is now it interfers to much with the side walk, and
just becoms a mess!

In fact one reason I have little rubble is because I read that having brushes intersecting increases rspeeds. Because the pavement is 2 units higher than the street quite a large area could intersected.

In addition to that I have quite a few sloping floors which are a nightmare to put craters in etc.

I will add more rubble but I'd rather get a new street texture first!

good work so far mate, but just remember...when a bomb hits a building it effects the surrounding area too, so put a few crates and lumps of rubble on the street where you have ruined a building...put more of a destroy texture there too, maybe some cracks and fires here and there to give it that authentic look :)

Well.. Real wartorn towns weren't built all destroyed.. At one time, before all the bombings and fighting they were still intact... Perhaps this town hasn't seen much combat "yet" ... Maybe it's still early in the war... <shrug>

A little imagination goes a long way...

I agree, not everything was destroyed in ww2.
But the places that did see some amount of fighting was
at least a little destroyed, and it ads to the feeling of playing
a ww2 game, that it actually looks like it's a combat aeria.

Maybe people think that you need some cracks in the walls
and roofs to go with the rubble...

But personaly I dont think it matters that much, I like the
feel it gives me but it's not necesary if gameplay is good.

So you finnished soon?
