There is a fat-@$$ FAQ about that in the link I gave you in my first post.
www.google.com and http://collective.valve-erc.com are your friends also.

Yea, I'm with Stealth.Socks on this, always have been. I've never understood why the sub-forum is where you are supposed to go and ask mapping questions. This is the only forum I've seen on the internet that does it this way
Damn obvious people will go to the mapping forum to ask questions without looking at stickys... hell, even the mapping FAQ is a sticky in the sub-forum.
Anyway ...
Sub-Forum here.

Look at the sticky threads at the top. They have stuff about mapping :kitty:
Also click sig for a little unknown DoD mapping website.

1. you are very very very very very very new to the DoD Mapping Forum.
2. welcome!
3. people here have seen every question known to man...so we laugh when people say "what do I use to map?" when there are threads labeled with big IMPORTANT tags on them. don't take any blowback personally.
4. don't call people here dicks when you're so new, kthx.
5. Your sig really is too big. I suggest a max size of around 450wide by 150 high...though we may have exact sig specs i have to check with the uberadmins.
That's not his sig, he just posted some picture with his post.

Well, new person, welcome to the forums! :D Pardon the rough introductions, but inside the mapping forum, there are a number of topics highlighted as being IMPORTANT.
Last I recall, a subsection should exist to the Mapping Forums dealing with questions and tutorials. I know it might seem unfamiliar, or a little odd at first as with General Forums your question is easily acceptable content within primary discussion, but most of these subsections and IMPORTANT highlights are just for organizing topics or questions already asked. Phew!*
There also here so people can easily find them if a basic question needs to be answered.

This site contains numerous tids and bits of information all imperative to common Half-Life editing. You can find numerous links in the site, aswell as a FAQ, to get you started. Its very similiar to some of the subforums here on dayofdefeat.net
http://collective.valve-erc.com/index.php?go=hammer
I believe is where you might want to go for an updated map editor/creator.
If you have questions for that, or using it, pm someone in the mapping forum that is experienced, or simply, use the subforums and important! links.
They should be here, or the subforums for mapping.
