Gonna try to convert this as a BAR, great work.

You can't convert it to the bar using bar animations because the bolt thingy is on the right side on the m14... as opposed to it being on the left on a bar...

I added a quick 2-second animation job (filling in for the down_to_up, down_shoot, etc etc etc). It's pretty crappy but hey, who here deploys a bar :confused:

It takes more that that... the bar still has the down_idle, down_reload, up_to_down, and down_to_up. You could probably use some given anims and maybe use draw for the up_to_down and down_to_up (although it'll look retarded) but you wouldn't know the difference if you were deployed.

Like I said, I did a half-assed animation job in which he moves the gun up a little for the deployed sequences.. although the anims aren't timed right (which is fixable).

What about taking the M14 and swaping sides w/ the bolt? You could use the BAR animations then. That would take a remesh though, wouldnt it?

remesh? no, because it wouldn't involve actually adding a new model peice. I guess you could do that if you assign the whole slide thing with the cocking handle, but it would look funny.. since that's not where it really is... and either way you would have to add new animations for the down sequences and the uptodown/downtoup

So you would be better off just getting new animations off of the current one since it would take less work and make more sense

I doubt anyone would know what side the slide/cocking lever is on a M14 w/out looking at a actual pic of a M14. I really wouldnt care anyways.

Why would you need new animations if you use the original BAR animation (w/ the up & down animations)? Wouldnt it be as simple as swaping the BAR w/ the M14, attaching the bipod, and assigning the bones?

well actually they or he was talking about adding a bipod. Something fov'd wouldn't look right with something that isn't to me

the cocking handle should stay on the right side, everyone who plays dod will see his garand a few times and see that they are actually the same gun, one of them is just magazine-loaded and can be fired full auto.

I must admit im no gun expert, but most of the guys over at militaryphotos.net were calling it an M-14.
After doing a quick google myself,i can see that they are very similar weapons.

The gun in question is an accurized M-14 that the Army is re-issuing to special units in an anti-sniper role in Iraq and Afghanistan. There was a larger article in Small Arms Review last month on the proud return of the M-14 to the Army. If you can dig that up online its a good read.

Very nice indeed. But I think It would make a better K43 replacement that a BAR or carbine.

nice idea, that would fit it mostly, but i guess most ppl wont like to use this model for a k43 not only because they werent invented at that time, its an american weapon as well. maybe if u would release a big pack of modern firearms that would replace the default and turn dod into a FPS that takes place in the present day, that would be kewl, but difficult, since no one would use bolt action rifles without a scope, except some weird arabs, but then u would have to add camels, too.

:D u are the first person who seems to notice my name. i chose this name when playing dod in the 3.1 beta days and someone called himself "mossad", the israelian secret service, as u might know. i talked about politics with him during the game and decided to call myself "intifada" then and make some suicide attacks with primed nades, it was some kind of satiristic act (dont know if the word "satiristic" exists, but i hope u will understand).

You know, there was an HBO special i saw a few weeks ago, it was a documentary called "Death in Gaza", it was made by a british camera crew, and the camera man that was with them wanted to film israeli children, but first was filming the palestinian children, and the night they were trying to go over to the israeli side to film, an israeli tank fired at the crew, who were waving white flags, and killed the camera man.

About the suicide bombings, if u knew, the israelis drive tanks and bulldozers into palestinian neighborhoods and fire upon children who are throwing rocks at them. The arabs throw rocks and fight with sticks, the Israelis come in with american donated weapons like Abrams tanks. When fighting an enemy that is outnumbering and out gunning you, you do not fight them straight on, u engage in gorrilla warfare and scare tactics. You strike at the weakest points possible, yet they are the most effective. You should eliminate the soldiers before they become soldiers. Americans call this terrorism, but if they were in the same situation, it would be called freedom fighting. Infact, they were once in the same position, during colonial times, and they had to use secret bombings and such things to gain their independence from a nation that was outnumbering and out gunning them. I mean, we all remember the Boston Tea Party incident from history class, dont we?

well, mortar, i didnt read ur complete post because its too long, but i guess i know what u´ve written. i have never been in israel, but i know about its history, i know about the developing of the conflicts, and i can show it to u on a map. i am very interested in politics and history, but u must understand i didnt want to talk about things like this in the MSA section. so please dont force anyone to post an even longer text by writing a KITTYKITTY long text about politics and our incompetence (what actually doesnt apply to me).

my first post should make clear that i am neither a radical supporter of the palaestineans, nor of the israelians. the only one who started the discussion were u, who just needed an opportunity to show everyone else they were the only ones who know everything about israel or palaestina, maybe u have relatives there, friends or u even live there. sorry that i am interested in what happens there. of course everyone could stop paying attention on whats happening there and they would continue killing each other until israel is broke and all palestinaens are dead, not before killing hundreds of innocent people who may even not support their gouvernment. (see this as an exaggerated example before flaming again)

I must admit I just got pissed off for the fact that I see so much people just judge the middle-eastconflict with so little respect for the people who suffer from it and -maybe that's the worst part -with so little knoledge of it. Any reasonable person who really tries to understand the situation (wich requires alot more then a few books and a opinion) will see that Israël is right in most cases. Not all, most.

actually uk has experianced the same thing (well terriorist bombing not suicide bombings) the ira has been carrying out the same sort of attact since the 1970's and irelancd has been a source of conflict for the iuk for over a 100 years. so really israel isnt the only country with seperatist terrorists/freedom fighters (all depends on ure point of view how u see them) ... and i dare say it never will be.

M-21 is outdated , the current M-14 Sniper is the M-25
Not much different, better mounts...

I think the gas assembly is unitized on both, and fairly sure the stock is glass bedded, or perhaps even steel bedded.
The stock associated with either sniper's in the civie world isn't actually used by the Military.

This thread surely caught my attention, as I've been working on my M-14 all damned morning.
