Here is some pics of my next set of models. In v4, I am to create many sets based on certain campaigns. This will include Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, Africa/Italy and possibly Pacific.
Heres pics of two Im currently working on:
US Winter. Mortar recently made a brilliant set of models but the one thing they lacked was the actually snowy look. So I asked him if I could do an edit and I did. New skins, new hands, new heads and edited gear. Here it is:
http://www.sommevalley.com/forums/uploads/post-39-1095168234.jpg

Australians. I saw this pack being made by the Pacific conversion group and I thought it needs a bit of work. I haven't done much except change the face and make the hat more realistic. Also added the AIF badge. I haven't asked for permission yet but won't release if it's not given (not like im releasing soon neway). Heres a piccy:
http://www.sommevalley.com/forums/uploads/post-39-1095168505.jpg

v4 models included redesigned heads with better meshes, improved headshots and moving mouths! Once I get am animator (possibly a guy called Fork) to work the mouths will move on voice commands. More soon.

Irises (sp?) are a little too large on the US eyes, look at your own in the mirror to get the proportions.

Joey, Joe Joe. Chill on the snow textures on those winter allies, not quite realistic. I'm liking the Aussies though. The pack needs some marginal re-skinning (hint hint) and the hat could use even some more polies too make it better looking. Also ditch the folded down version on the top right for either another one sided fold up, or add a standard british helmet. Perhaps 2 versions? Just my opinion, I'm not a fan of the style with both sides down.

Good job so far, I'm a fan of your work.

[Edit: Just a word on that Aussie, the face is A+. Really looks like an aussie.]

realy good job on the skins

yes, reskin the :vader::vader::vader::vader: out of it... badKarma was looking for someone to do it just before he lost his internet especialy the face, that was his major concern and I promise he will not be disapointed in the least. me and Junior have our hands full with various other things, and the Ausies were "GOOD ENOUGH" so they got neglected... example the bare arms were black UVmap skins until the day of their release and I slapped a 45 second skin on it. Yes by all means, do it. My only request is that you write a readme TXT so we can remember who skinned it ;)

(weapons are available for anyone to try their had at too)

In WW2 their helmets were composed of 2 parts, a shell (the metal outer wall) and then an inner helmet. The inner helmet was fairly light weight composed of (?? I want to say fiberglass or plastic, can't remember??) with a mesh of fabric inside to cushion the head from any blow it might sustain. The mesh was fairly well removed from the rest of the helmet with a gap, this was to protect the head. Then add on that the metal shell and you get the distance you outlined in the picture. Look at a construction worker's hardhat and you will see a similar construction for the inner helmet used in WW2.

Nowdays, they use a composite of foam, kevlar, etc. to make a single helmet, which is more compact.

the helmets still look stretched...

He needs to widen them a bit, then shrink them perportional to the actual head size.

Besides that, the winter models look sweet. Those aussies...I think I might replace them as my axis models. Just so I can see who'd win in a fight...

Aussies vs Brits
Aussies vs Americans

:D

I dunno, its those hats. Rock on tho!

The forehead of that US guy could do with being a little smaller and go easy with the snow he looks like an extra from a porn film at the mo :p

lol Ska its snow not... otherstuff

Okkies, I think I will remove the other aussie hat and add a british tin hat. As for the snow I will cut down on it as it looks like he has been buried in it (I just tried an over the top look to see what you guys think)
Bout the the helmet, BillyNair is right. I can widen it a bit and lower it but not too much. The face also is using an unfinished skin which I will fix in due time.
The Auzzie face is actually an American face which I've been using as a temp. It looks good though so Ill keep it and add in some British faces here and there.

<-- Owns 8 WWII dated helmets, weapons, uniforms, ammunition

I know what is up with them...

It just is annoying thats why I'm not using them, great models and all, just that tad bit takes away from the game to me.

@Panzershreck, I used some refernce files to make it. I was a bit of a rush to do it, that why it was a bit dodgy.

I will have pics of some other set maybe after this weekend.

Your iris gets bigger or smaller depending on the amount of light there is.

The iris bit is the part that has a color, the pupil is the part that gets bigger or smaller depending on light conditions.

10-13-2004, 09:36 AM
Sorry bout the lack of news but I've been busy with my work for The Somme Valley as we are rocketing towards a release in the next few months. Unfortunately I have lost alot of interest in DoD as of recent due to this and I have halted in my tracks doing these. Unless I find more time for DoD i doubt these will be finished.

BadKarma, check ur pms ;)
