My Modeling/Skinning Plans (SPR)

Hello.

I've been interested in learning how to make models and skins and hope to learn how sometime soon. I know almost nothing on the subject and it will take me a while of research and studying. But this thread doesn't really concern that...

... on to my real issue of the post. My plans are to make a full SPR Allied weapons pack based on the weapons carried by the characters in the movie. What I'd like to know is, how many people would be interested in a pack of this nature? The results would most likely be lower on the quality end, as it would be my first release. I don't really want to waste any of the more experienced skinners/modelers time in this pursuit; so that's not an option.

Well, what do you guys think? I want to learn regardless and most likely will, despite the feedback, but I'd still like to get the feedback anyway. =D

Thanks for reading.

Ah, this would be unique. Get me the fat man as the staff sergeant and I will be happy.

I think I'd say don't get ahead of yourself. Go through the tutorials and try different types of hacking, basic modeling and basic skinning and then continue on whichever you like doing the most.

I started yesterday, and Modelling, rendering, and skinning is the easy parts. You gotta prepare for the others.

what other parts? animating? and skinning is the hardest thing ever i think, i cant believe it took just one day to learn it all, it takes a LOT of days to create something thats even worth skinning... plz show me a piece of work u modeled and skinned in one day. u must be a really uber1337 genius.

dont make this guy think its an easy job, plz.

For a skilled and experienced artist it isn't the biggest thing to make a textured model in a day or two. It depends on the comlpexity of the model of course, but it's hardly the feat you make it out to be.

but NJR.y doesnt seem to be a skilled artist. when i started to find out how this stuff works it really took a long time to get into it and since i am not spending all of my time in front of my pc i didnt finish anything good, except for some self made shells for CS, i used to play in that time. the only bigger thing i was working on was a all over self-made g3, but i didnt get it animated, because i didnt know how to attach it to the hands in a proper way, so i can actually see it ingame. also a skin is still missing.

ok, this picture really doesnt belong here... :D

Yes, I've really only got basic image editing experience with Paint Shop Pro.

So anyway, here were my plans for this pack:

- A custom modeled/skinned weapon for every weapon featured both in the movie and the game (so unfortunately, no Greasegun and possibly no knife...), using reference pictures as a guide. I may only make the skin if I can find a pre-made model that suits. No FOV/FOV edits or reorientations planned. Sorry. =D

Featuring:

Private Caparzo's Garand
Sergeant Horvath's Carbine
Captain Miller's Thompson
Private Jackson's Springfield
Private Reiben's BAR
Corporal Henderson's 30 Cal
Private Ryan's Bazooka
Sergeant Horvath's Colt
Captain Miller's sticky bombs (grenade replacements =) )
Private Mellish's Bayonette

I dunno how to add Upham in, but who cares, he sucked. =D And Wade, well... he was a medic. =/

- Weapon firing sounds ripped straight from the movie.

- As many voice commands ripped from the movie as I can get.

- A custom loading screen with John Williams - Hymn to the Fallen for music.

- No Axis or British sections planned.

- No player models planned. I'd like to make them, but that'd prolly be more than I can chew. Plus I don't really use player models myself. Still, it'd be fun to make them.

That's what I have planned. Are you guys laughing at the naive newb yet? =)

Random question: Would it be possible to have an animation play when you try to dry fire the Colt? I'd like animate it being thrown forward, like what Horvath did in the final fight in Ramelle, when he got pissed after getting shot in the leg.

Horvath was so funny. =)

Um..how do those weapons differ from the ones currently in the game minus the sounds?

A Garand is a Garand, there's no difference from the Garand in DoD and the one in SPR.

DOD Garand - Light bluish metal, red wood
SPR Garand - Dark & shiny metal, dark wood. Depends on which garand though, Caparzo's were kinda yellowish, Upham's were dark brown.....but they were all dark.

DOD Thompson - ............................. ouch
SPR Thompson - Dark metal with a bluish tint, Worn out kinda dark reddish wood.

DOD Carbine - Light bluish metal, light brown wood
SPR Carbine - *see garand*

DOD Springfield - Gold metal on the bolt assembly, light brown wood, Medium sized scope
SPR Springfield - Dark metal, dark brownish wood, Extended scope

DOD BAR - Light bluish metal, light reddish wood, bipod
SPR BAR - Dark worn out metal, Dark brown wood, no bipod

So in conclusion.....
DOD = Light
SPR = Dark

Good luck with the pack by the way.

It's not easy... I've played around in photoshop for FOUR years, so skinning with my skills in the program comes natural. Sure, I need work, but I can still make and apply skins.

I never said I skinned something in one day, I said I learned skinning in one day... Well, I learned photoshop, then learned HOW to edit and apply skins. Nothing too hard.

Animating and compiling are the hard parts for me, haven't touched them, but that's probably the reason why.

PISHPOSH....editting skins is useless because its not YOUR skin. Making a skin from scractch I find hard because I've never actually tried to make a wood texture.

heck i would take another model pack if they were good weapons and had good graficks but i dont think you should get ahead of yourself to becaus the models might not be as good as you think they will be but i think that you will make good models.
