OK, I'm trying my hand at mapping. I've created a small village map, nothing textured except the ground and the sky box. I added a light_environment entity in the middle at the top of the sky box (inside). I compile the map with no errors but when I run it in DoD there is no light (see screenshot). None of the buildings are textured. Any ideas? Please HELP!!!!

I'm compiling with Zoners tools in Hammer using the F9 key.

make sure your light_env has the PITCH set correctly
by default its zero
set it to -80 or so (-90 is straight down)

Thks for the help but - no luck. I set the PITCH to -80 and re-compiled - still black like the screenshot shows. Any other ideas?

did you texture that sky or is that the sky you choose to display?
if you placed a texture on the sky texure, sky texture must not be edited at all it must stay the light blue color when you place it in your map for it to fucntion as a sky, and did you compile with vis and rad turned on?

OK, great help. I switched from NORMAL to EXPERT mode and turned VIS & RAD to normal (they were off. Now the map won't compile. It starts VIS and says there is a problem then it starts RAD and also says there is a problem. The map compiles fine with them off. By the way, my sky is the light blue in Hammer - I didn't place a texture on it. Any ideas?

yes use this program to compile, Batch Compiler, it is better than Hammer's built in tools, BC uses the .map format so save it as that and compile

http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Nemesis/index.php?p=3

and use XP Cagey, instead of Zoners, these are far better and more updated than zoners, download is on the right the current spotlight box

if you want to send me the file and I will check it out, email it to

Thks for the excellent help. I finally figured it out - I changed the place where compiled maps are placed. Basically I put them in a folder other than the STEAM - maps location for DoD. That seems to have fixed VIS & RAD not working. Thanks to your help I can now compile with the lighting. EXCELLENT.

I'm now going to bug you with one more request - I can't figure out how to make a normal hinged door. I've read a couple of tutorials but they all seem to be out-dated. Help would be appreciated.
