Why make all maps outdoors?

I have never seen an map which takes place in only 1 large building where you have to fight for waypoints across different floorlevels etc.

Stalingrad was notorious for the fight getting control over the different floors in a building where the germans were (as an example) on the first and third floor and the russians where on the second and fourth floor. I think big open spaces / rooms should be avoided in this level.

I know there are no Russians in Day Of Defeat (why???), but I think a level like described above would be really cool & adrenaline pumping through your veins action garanteed (death at every corner possible) etc. :)

Please make a 1 big building level and call it DOD_Stalingrad. :)

It would be good if doner properly. However my concern is dark corner proners and campers in general. I say give it a try a map like this might not be too bad.

I've always thought I could probably take parts of my dod_factory map and cobble them together in a all-indoor factory...remove the lake and the train yard and take the parts I have and re-arrange them in a facsimili of a factory...it's possible...almost a rat-type map.

It sounds cool. That building is a multiplayer map in Call of Duty by the way.

There are no Russians in Day of Defeat because Day of Defeat focuses on battles in Western Europe, not Eastern.

Also, adding more "races"/"factions" would be putting strain on an already stretched engine (code wise i believe) not to mention the balance issues...

It would be fun to throw your grenades down a staircase or snipe through the holes in the walls which have been damaged.

Map could be done with allies or brits, idea of fighting taking place in a single building was not a concept soley held by stalingrad, if anything stalingrad is more memorable of the daring and valant charge across the volga and up the beach into the city, countless cities involved house to house, building to building combat. Battle in Berlin (russian), also market garden, when the british airborne had to hold a bridge, forgive me i can't remember the name, but that city was quite cramp, battles could of been raged in there.
Also don't forget, even though theres no class for french, you could have a map as allies (brits) vrs germans in Paris, a free french revolt as the allies appoarch Paris after Normandy.

Back to the Topic, if a stalingrad map is to be done, it must hold true to the battle, a charge up the beach or through red square. A Building does not symbolize Stalingrad. Its like comparing any beach map to the battle of Utah Beach.

Someone mentioned Kampf already. But Fabrik is another map that is pretty close to what you are describing.

Most of you people meen maps which have "outdoors parts" ... I would love to see map which starts in 1 building and only takes part "in" this building. Where 1 team spawns on the topfloor and another on the groundlevel floor.

No open spaces / no large area's or rooms etc.

Use the Americans & the Germans and call the map Dod_Berlin or something since there are no russians in the game.

It could be set in Aachen, Tunis, Brest, Cherbourg, pretty much any industrial keypoint on the Western Front. Maybe even some ruin fighting with a Monte Cassino Brit map(no Poles in DoD...yet...)

That first picture reminds me of a map from Call of Duty, which takes place in Stalingrad, I think their map team used that picture :)

I think it would be a welcome change from the useal outdoor maps. The pase of the game would speed up dramaticly. Blood thirsty Quake style deathmatch fans like me would definatly go for a map like this!!!

There would be a lot less strain on the engine, as its all indoors, so you would be able to put a lot more detail into it.

I'd say, 'Anyone who thinks this style of map is a waste of time, is a FCUKING NUTTER!!!'.

"Can't you see what you people have done to me!?! You've brought Quake back into the picture!!! It's gonna drive me crazy...! ...Quakeeee... Must have... Qu... Quakeee!!!"
