Well heres my first dod map ever, I hope you like it. Its a winter themed map based around a train station. It will have indoor closed quarters combat, urban combat, as well as some good outdoor environments. I havent really gotten too much detailing done (focusing more on layout right now) but will have plenty when its ready for a beta test. Some feedback would be nice, and go easy, its my first map for dod ;) -Dj

Looks like a cool map, but I'm not digging the brown walls around the 88 flak cannons. Other than that, looks good so far.

Ya I might use a different texture for the wall, but as it stands right now I doubt I will change it until I finish the layout of the rest of the map. Thanks for the comments :)

Ya that is a ladder, I dont have a story written up for it atm, thats like last to do on my list. Ive just started detailing my map yesterday but so far im pleased with how its turning out.

Looks like an interesting map.
Any objective based gameplay, or simply a flag cap map?

I saw some flags in there, I think Loco.
Cool looking map, but don't go bugger it by making it british.

comming along nicely ;):vader:
i do think that the 88's sitting in the middle of the snow look very very odd, at the least you have to think about things, many people would be walking around the 88 and there is a lot of heat so the snow would be somewhat melted or dirty, where are the shells comming from for the 88? add a few crates in - but in saying that i do think they look extremely odd just sitting there, map would go a lot better with some more detail in that respect.

I understand what you are sayin random and thanks for the feedback. The 88's are there and frozen over, I havent written up a story yet for it but as it will go in a nutshell, the axis turned the town into a basecamp and allies are trying to recapture it. Theres a lot of areas in my map I havent shown yet just because I cannot seem to get a good angle for a screenshot. If you all would like you can dl the current beta if I can find someone to host it. Its currently uploaded on my clans ftp but obviously I cannot give that info out to just anyone. We ran a playtest last night and everything seems to be good and balanced with the exception of 1 spot coming out of axis spawn which I am going to fix this week. If someone can direct me to a site which I can upload my map and not have to pay for it I wil do so. Thx :carrot:

if you ever want a file hosted email it to me, Travis@expesports.com and ill add it to my file database that day, there is also a list of hosts in a stickied thread on this very forum.
with the 88's even with what you are saying its looks very very very very very very very very very very odd and unrealistic - perhaps do the simple option and add a few crates.

It just doesnt' look real enough.. in all your screenshots it looks like this scenario was just plopped down in the middle of nowhere. above the cliffs are just the sky, there is no sense of it being an actual environment. you need to add more details, fix up some of your textures, and work on your archetecture. It has promise, but needs a lot of work :P

Everyone has their own taste, I happen to like the look of my map and so do the people who have played it. Nope, not changing any of those :)

Its always alright to take other people's thoughts and ideas and incorporate them with yours to have a better result that everyone will be happy about. I think Neutrino is just offering some thoughts & constructive criticism that maybe of help to further the map from looking bland to a polished product. Though i agree, you and the testers like the look so far, but I personally think that listening to i'd say "expert" mappers such as Neutrino
can really improve upon what you have so far.

thats your loss. u post here and dont expect to change anything in your map? what? u want everyone to say good job? then dont post here. Your map isnt perfect. And it needs some massive improvements from the look of it. im not just talking visually. You have long open stretches, getting read to be dominated by the sniper rifles. I dont really care though. If I try to help people and they dont listen, well, thats all I can really do.

neutrino is right man, you come on these forums and post you have to expect some suggestions whether you like them or not doesnt change the fact your going to get them - neutrino is right in all of his points.
your posting amoungst mappers, if you wanna get a random "well done your awesome" do it in forums where people dont know better, everyone here is trying to help you not trying to put down your work.

well for one if a map is too open then one or two people using sniper rifles can dominate an enitre area and create a choke point of epic proportions.
Also it can/will affect r_speeds and raise them higher then you'd like, look at dod_charlie on the beach the areas wide open and its got 1000 wpoly roughly.
Long open areas need cover added to them in the form of rubble or models and this will help a little bit with some of the r_speeds.

Actually the reason I made a thread was to simply show what I have been working on pure and simple. Just as I browse this forum looking at other peoples maps, but I only offer criticism when it is wanted or asked for.
I dont assume every thread is looking for a review etc. I happen to like the texture sets I used in my map and more importantly, how it is laid out. Gameplay > looks and fixing up a map to please the eye is the easy part, making a balanced map that is fun to play is the challenge.
Playtests have shown I have a well balanced map, and it is not too open. If you think my map is too open obviously you havent played some of the official maps like charlie, jagd, or zalec to name a few.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and everyone has their own taste. How anyone can offer a review of a map without actually having played it baffles me. When its finished and released and you have actually played it feel free to offer a review and bash it all you want.
This is the first map I have ever made for dod, and I am quite happy with it. Im not looking to make a release candidate, just a map myself and my clan can run on our server and have fun playing. If you took my comment in a negative way I apologize, I was just making my intentions known. :)
*edit*
btw random i cant email a file that big so if you or anyone else wants the map join my irc channel gamesurge random us server #-=XLT=-Headquarters I can send it in the evenings around 7pm est or later.
