Hey can someone please tell me where the .wad files are for textures? I understand they should be in the half-life directory. It even says in the valve editor manual that they are located in the half-life directory, is the valve help manual up to date with steam? I even tried looking for them in 'search files and folders' and still they are nowhere to be found. Will it make a difference if I reinstall hl and steam and choose 'don't clean up files' when I install steam, because I chose 'clean up files' before.

I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.

Hey Ben,

In Steam, the wad files are located in the encrypted GCF file in the SteamApps directory.

You can browse and extract files from the cache with this (http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Nemesis/index.php?c=97#p97) tool. You'll find those wads with this program.

Thanks skdr that works perfect! Is there a specific .wad file I should use for DoD specific textures or do I need to use the .wad's of the individual maps?

well, there are various .wads you can find around the internet by looking around. mainly, anything with dod_*.wad is a good wad to use for your maps, as it has day of defeat textures (obviously). you should also get the hlbasics.wad from the gcf file as it contains all the basics (as the name suggests) like sky, {blue, clip, null, hint, etc..

heres some good models and textures for you to download:

PS: dont forget to give credit to the people who made the textures that you use in your map.

Neutrino, you need to install the .NET Framework in order for it to work. It was coded in Visual Basic using the .NET Framework, so you need to install it...

I definitely plan on crediting people if I ever get around to finishing a map, but anyways thanks for the link. I already have .NET Framework, must have gotten it from the 'Automatic Updates' program. thanks
