Well there are these people in dod called your 'team mates'. Youre supposed to cooperate with them and you find them on most... if not all maps.

not exactly.

for example a map where youre allies fighting up the beaches on d-day but with more missions.....basically a singleplayer game with more then one player. which is sort of what co-op is

It probably is possible. Having one team being human and the other bots. Fight against the bots and complete objectives. Some one must at least try :)

They took out the buggy experimental monster_axis_grunt, monster_allied_barney and monster_allied_grunt entities from DoD 1.2. If you want to play with those, try playing v1.0 or lower. They work best in beta 2.0-3.1 though. Over time, there was less and less support for these AI grunts, and performance wasn't exactly favourable from v1.0 onwards. Theoritically, you can create a map with these AI grunts, and have a bunch of players join you online (and you provide only 1 particular set of spawns for a particular team). However, because DoD does not have support for monstermaker entities which allow for respawning monsters, there isn't really much you can do once all the AI has been exterminated. Besides, the AI isn't enhanced like what Sven Coop did. (Sven Coop severely improved the HL AI...allowing the AI to detect you at longer ranges and sooo much more..) One of the things you can do is coop fight against AI-controlled stationery func_tank entities which can be visually represented as sentries, guards, tanks, etc. Additionally, you can always have bots online as well, but ensure admins enforce all players to work on a particular team vs. the bots and ai func_tanks. A level like the Carentan Ripe Pickings by Gearbox Brothers in Arms would rox04, with a tank model driving over a small hedgerow from an outside scenery .mdl, moving into a pre-set position into the map(then activating its func_tanks weapon system in its pre-set position) and swapping a fake model-based turret with a real-func_tank_based turret with a couple of env_renders. Voila! A tank that gatecrashes the party and makes a grand appearance!

If you haven't had the experience of going up against staitionery tanks that fire at you, lemme tell you they are sinister even in open snow terrain!

This request is just odd. The whole game is co-op except for deathmatch maps. Are you just requesting for monster/npc characters?

This thread is pointless. Theres no way to have human vs computer in dod unless you use bots. So theres no chance of co-op in dod...

in a co-op game you can have 32 allies against 300 axis ai, but since none of you understood what i was asking :o (i guess this would require some coding so it aint gonna happen till hl2 anyways...)
