Preview: DoD_Abfall
Alright this map was featured in my post "Preview: WIP" well i now have a name for the map which is DoD_Abfall (german for "DoD_Drop") the map will take place in a country town setting durring a rain storm, the allies will parachute in (Map will feature a very impressive spawn/parachute system) and haveto take controll of 3 main control points to win the map (Bridge, Trench defense system and The Church) the map will also have a river (running under the bridge), a Train Station, some country Houses/Cabins scattered around the countryside and progressive spawn points for both teams The axis will only be able to retake the trench system capture point and who ever has control of the trench system will be able to have their team spawn there which will make this map sort of a tug-o'-war
Other features in the map will include cows, sequences involving lightning & fire, a small underground bunker system and realistic terrain
The map has an atmosphere unlike any dod map i have ever played, it is not quite a night nor a day map but a hybred of both which really helps set the mood, the map also combines aspects of different types of maps (beach, town, Field)

There are a couple spots in the trenches that should be set up to allow MG deployment, if possible.

there are 3 in each of the 2 trenches 1 on each side and 1 at the end near the road

abfall doesnt mean drop lol -at least not 'drop' as in para drop.
it means garbage/litter etc..
but dod_garbage sounds like a fun map
:D

yeah lol, I thought that to, why would someone name their map garbage. Thought it was a map set on a junkyard or something :D
English-German translation sites are so helpfull :P
But lovely map nonetheless.
NC17, please use the edit button! it is absurd to make 3 posts in a row and you cant use the "i was in a rush" excuse again because i takes just as long to make a new post as it does to edit your old one, please stop trying to boost your post count!

I know abfall is used in reference to garbage but it still sounds good when you say dod_abfall and in one of the para drop missions they code named it abfall because they had gotten the word from some german captives

2 things though:
-make the lighting darker
-if r_speeds allow, make the outline of the map more detailed.

Draft Dodger - I am using almost all of the official dod 1.0 .wads and a few textures a friend made me, i think that grass and dirtroad texture were made by him (forget which ones are custom)
I will ask him if i can release his textures in a .wad with the map

lmao, nice name. When I saw the thread I thought "why would someone name there map that?". Then I double-checked and it indeed was what I thought it was. Whatever floats your boat. :D
There's not a dod_drop though is there? I have a map named that, that i've been working on for awhile. Is there one already?

I have never seen a dod_drop before so i dont think so

The name is taken from a parachute mission from ww2 and i will have the story in the .txt

NC17, "dod_litter" looks quite nice :D
I have one suggestion, though. Your two trenches are connected by a twenty-foot long wooden board that is suspended across the road. This just looks silly in my opinion. You would never see this in real life. I know you want to have those two trenches connected but I just think that board looks a bit wierd there.
Other than that, great work! I'm looking forward to seeing your para drop start.

Anyway the wpolys are around 700 and the epolys are around 3000 throughout the whole map

a small 1 man walk way would be cool that goes over it, also if you could fit them in some more barbwire would be good seeing as its a defencive line and a few mines would be neat :)

Are you actually gonna finish any of your maps? This is the third map I have seen you preview, and still no releases. Maybe you should focus on one map at a time.

It is an old habbit i got from the company i usto work for
They usto have the mappers work on a few different ideas and then they would pic the best out of the bunch
But i am working on all 3 of these maps at the same time and will be releasing all 3

I am still looking for the link to the story
But i remember they got the word from some germans in a small french town that were calling the americans garbage and telling them to drop their weapons so some how the word was used as a codename for a para mission

LOL I'm just as bad- I started work on a single player HL episode but thats still nowhere near finished! Now I'm working on 2 DOD maps.
That church on the hill... makes me think of the Addams family!!!
If this is as good as looks... hell DOD team make it official!
I can't beleive how good the latest custom DOD maps look, much much better :)
Here is the overview of the map so far
This represents about 75 percent of the final layout the map will be pretty big but the spawning system will make sure that you never have to go far to get some action
Now that hill_classic is out of the way i will spend more time working in this so it should not be long before it is ready for release!
