Was playing around with XSI tonight and figured out how to do vertex -> bone assignments so I can at least glue a mesh to a skeleton. Only problem is the darn XSI SMD exporter seems to think that the mesh is a bone when you export the reference model! :(

Anyway, 50% closer to figuring out HL1 modeling in XSI. I figured out how to export animations, just not the reference meshes.

- Jed :O I didn't get an email. dillinger@insightbb.com, if you would.

And congrats on the XSI front! That program confuses the hell out of me.

Yay!

When you get your hands on the MAX 6 SDK, rip into that please.

Working on it! Only got two compiler errors on the SMD exporter to fix.

BTW Face, I spoke to Nem and we're going to take a crack at writing a BSP -> dotXSI tool. Basically it exports the whole map with textures as a model which you can then import into any 3D App that support dotXSI format (MAX, Maya, SoftImage, etc) and do movies from within the 3D App.

You'll need to do some fixing of textures to get things like transparency right and we'll probably stick simple Omni lights in where needed. But all in all its a bit better than trying to do things from scratch.

I guess it won't be able to work the other way around, still pretty impressive.

That.would.be.above.and.beyond.anything.yet...

Dude, if that happens, I'll have a smile on my face for about a month. Since we emailed ages ago that problem has been such a damper. Also the SMD thing. I am very glad these projects hit your list of to-dos.
