DoD_Arch Problems!

Gah!

So I load up Hammer today to do some work on DoD_Arch (I'm trying to figure out why Density won't work in 1.1) and load the .rmf up to be greeted by an error. It cannot find the .rmf.

Never mind, probably in an old place Ill go look for it in the folder...few moments later I load up the folder only to be faced with a blank RMF folder. Oh dear theyre all gone, check the recycle bin not there, do a system restore, still not there. Bugger.

Never fear, I have backups, so out comes the back up DVD I recently made and load the .rmf up. Hammer freezes loading it up...gah x 2. Right, no problem I'll load the .map, .map loads fine except for the fact HALF THE FRIGGIN MAP ISN'T THERE! The whole Allied side has vanished completely.

Panic mode sets in, the first backup .rmf and .map are corrupt! Ill get the old old DVD backups out to find the original .rmf KominAaa gave me, this is like searching for a needle in a haystack, or more precisely a DVD in a house. I don't think it's even in my house, probably gave it to a friend to transfer some files. So when/if I get it back I should have the .rmf, unfortunatly its about 6 Months out of date and has vast chunks of work to do to get it even to compile.

Other things that went missing were a few of the old Bierville .rmfs (like the first 3 beta versions), not that I'll need them, a dozen or so test maps and some old Density versions, luckily the latest version is safe on the DVD, a floppy disk and on another Hard drive.

So its just really bad luck I guess, to make sure I just copied my C: over to my 80Gb D: for insurance incase this HD dies.

:(

What the hell is happening?! First Jed, now you.

*small theory* Maybe its 1.2beta (which I assume you are testing if not ignore me)

I say this because Jed lost his stuff and he is testing and you are (if you are)

Well yes we both are testing it but I seriously doubt it's anything to do with 1.2, my maps folder wasnt even on the same drive.

ah yes the blank .rmf bug.

I read about it a while ago, but I cant remember where.

There is something you have to do to trigger it, but you can open a .rmf, and map for hours, then save the rmf. But as you as you close hammer, the .rmf gets wiped clean.

Im trying to finf the source, might have been on the VERC.

I've only heard of this once for .rmf format maps, and I think the guy was just BSing to get out of something. I have however heard of the .map issue, it likes to dump brushes like there's no tomorrow. The only suggestion I can make is try google searching.

well, kamikazi always used to say it and now i will as well

backup your maps and keep saving as different versions often

i probably have about 50 versions of dod_rommel still on my hd.

I presumed 4 different backups spread over a Hard-Drive and 2 DVD's would have been safe :p

Seeing as I take it the files are there, but are empty upon opening, you could try opening the .map in QuArK or something. Or it could be a problem with your Hammer for whatever reason, because this sounds quite abnormal.

i had that problem to, and i deleted the .rmx file as well!!! Luckily I had made a .map file, but it wouldn't open properly in Hammer.

I opened the .map file in Quark after doing a file recovery (try loads of different programs some work some dont they all do it differently!!) and then I exported this back to a .map again without making any changes. This then opened successfully in hammer and I used hammer to save this as a .rmf and all was good again!!

Are you getting soild 4564789234 something error?

If so.
open the .map in wordpad.

Find
"wad" "yourwads"

Delete it.

problem solved.

Word pad has a limit to the size of .map it can open I believe. If it's too large you can use a Textpad style program such as EditPlus (Which I've used on a 14Mb .map and opened it instantly as opposed to wordpad which is sluggish and has issues.)
