How do I use Maya?

How would I compile Day of Defeat models to Maya? You probably first have to decompile them as .smds, but how I do covert .smds to Maya format?

There is a Maya smd exporter out there, but it's not compatible with the latest version. What I do is export the models in Milkshape as Wavefront .obj's. Then you can import it into Maya and have your way with it. The only downside to this is that skeletons are lost in the export. There is no way that I know of to keep the skeleton when exporting to any format compatible with Maya.

Anybody know a free good program to easily make animations with DoD models then?
