Hello all. Some of you might remember me as a modeler from a few years back. I made the first Enfield sniper rifle and Bren gun for the community way back in beta 1.3/4 (I think). I've just had to register again as the board has changed since I was last on

Anyway, cutting to the chase...

Last year in June 2003 I visited Omaha beach and took a few pictures of what I saw. I thought you peeps might be interested in looking at them, some of them may make good reference for mapping... just a thought anyway.

WoW, you have no idea how much this means to me, I am a 29th ID reenactor and live in Charlottesville, VA, home of Company K of the 116th Infantry. This is great, I wish I had the time to get over there, maybe some day.

so it seems that beach maps are comming again as in the last time everybody was sick of them ;)
I started one ages ago its actually designed by pictures and plans of the german WN62, it can be found on the last picture.
There are realistic Tobruks and Typs of german bunkers which actually where placed in WN62 in the map, the beach itself is very low and long like on your pictures...

I think i will start working on it again and actually iam compiling it to see how fare i was ...so compiling is runnig with low priority..I will post some ingame screens this evening :)

As I didnt mapped for ages and never with steam.. ( so you see it has been a while ) I forgot most of the commands ( for r_speeds for example ) could someone please write them down here for me ? so I can make some screens with r_speeds and so on.. thx !

Nice pictures man :-)
I've been to the beach at the age of 10 (now im 17.5) and i was quite stupid not to give it a better look, i remember seeing some of the concrete plates on the water that are still there and i was standing near a british tank, i also remember german bunkers near the site, of course i knew about the war and everything but far far less than what i know today and connect it to pictures/movies i saw and the history i learned properly, i think i will give the place another visit, although im not so excited about going to france nowadays.

Great stuff...How hard it must have been...Most of the hills where player can't go should be models ;) to reduce world polies.
Polyhead, try this commandmenu i think all is inside.

I always though that Journeyman sounded somehow familiar to me ;)

Welcome back, old mate, glad to see an old veteran from the early days return.

so this is actually near a german PAK bunker.. in WN62 they were protecting one of the entrances to the beaches, if you look up in the two maps Journeyman posted you will see what i mean.

r_speeds are around 700 here..

so enough from me, if more screens want to be seen from you just say it.. there are some more i could post, but actually iam to lazy^^

Hey PolyHead84 Nice to see you still got your beach map.. looks good.

But i would suggest making the blue tint into a grey tint since it was surpose to be foggy and moody if you know what i mean.

Please also add a sniper limit on both teams i would suggest no snipers for allies or axis but thats up to you.

Hi Lyter good to speak to you again!

Yeah it was a very moving experience to say the least especially as I'd just read Stephen E. Ambrose's D-Day book again shortly before going. I also made a point of going very early in the morning as the sun was coming up so it was about the same time as the landings started.

There is still a rusted LCI (landing Craft Infantary) hulk further along the beach from where I took the pictures. You might make it out as a 'spec' in one of the pictures. Didn't expect that at all.
