[Model] Marksman's mp40 v2 resurrected
I really don't know how old this model is, but I was browsing dod editting center since I kinda got back into dod lately, and saw this mp40 and the model really appealed to me, all it needed was some more work. So I remeshed it into 3 meshes instead of the crowded single mesh it was before in order to improve the resolution, then I editted the model a tad so it was slightly more accurate to references. All in all, I'm happy with this model by marksman more than the other one he gave me to skin... The other one had horrible smoothing errors that I just couldn't repair and was barely able to cover them up with my skin. This by far is a lot more representative of my real potential.
For all you knew people, I used to be a pretty heavy hitter around here, but after dod sold out to valve I was a little disappointed with the resulting steam network and the difficulties it created for the custom modelling community (ie not being able to gain access to new models because they were on the network and not on our drives). Expect a few more releases from me... I've reskinned Rusty's enfield models with some new wood (not sure if I'll redo the metal parts), as well as a the default springfield (which looks absolutely terrific imho). I'm already finished with them pretty much, so all that is left is to release them.
Enjoy this for now... extra credits are in the zip file.

Amazing skin !!!
i wanna learn how to skin metal that good, it looks smooth but textured, it got grain but not too much, great metal stains and just about realistic lighting... that's perfect !
Nice to see you back :-)
thanks for the comments guys. I'll probably end up posting a tutorial on how I do metal after I release a few more things that I've been sitting on. Just to start though... I'll tell you I have a base metal texture that I made a long time ago that I use on all my metal skins pretty much. I got tired of making a new metal texture every time I made a new skin, so it's pretty handy to have one.

Nice skin Bots, and nice to see your still around, it's a little clean for me though, any chance of you doing a more war torn looking skin.

Very nice Bots, nice to see you skinning for DoD again :)
if marzy's lucky I may have time to make more a more distressed skin... but I've been really busy with school as of late so... I can't guarantee much.

Sweet Bots Ive always loved the origins you use on your weapons :D

This is the way stamped/pressed metal weapons should be skinned. Devoid of all detail except for the basics, because MP40's didn't have all the nooks and crannies guns like the Garand and Carbine had.
I want this style of metal on the Greasegun and the Sten.

Nice looking model, too bad we cannot appreciate the fine details in the front of the gun ingame.

I find there's no definition on the edges. No matter how sharp an edge is, it's going to reflect light differently than the surfaces on either side. You did it on the grip, but not elsewhere.
It's good otherwise, but that little extra definition on the edges would make me want to use it.
It's a common thing I've noticed in all of your skins that I can remember.
Please don't take this wrong. I'm not trying to attack you or anything. Just saying it's good, but there's just that little thing missing for it to fit my taste.
