I found this rectle a while back and just never got around to making it until today. I am using the old 3.x scope's outline, but the crosshairs are from the rectle. It is named "scope_k43.spr", but just change the name to "scope_spring.spr" if you are an allied sniper kind of guy. (What is the name for the Britt's scope??!?!)
Unlike the old days, there is no sprite to replace anymore, just drop this SPR in the sprite folder, the address should be similar to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\address@ISP.com\day of defeat\dod\sprites
I have some other scope sprites from back in the day, I can post them if people are still interested in upgrading their scopes anymore. (I am just glad we can see the scopes in death watch, since I never play sniper it is the only time I see these)

I have never understood why the X-axis and Y-axis in the scopes of DOD have gone into this thing of "spekling" or "fading" the axiis(?, how do u pluralize that).
In real life, the crosshairs are not painted on in scopes, if that were the case, how would you adj. them? Their are two wires in scopes, very, very then wires, that are your crosshairs. Now, how can wires fade and spekle? How the hell do you spell speckle, or spekle, or whatever.

As I watched "Enemy at the Gates", I saw that the scope Vassili used was kind of faded, like paint that wore off a little. About the same time there was a guy that wanted the crosshairs from Konig's scope (my first sprite) I asked why the hairs looked painted on in the movie. From discussions back in the beta 1 days, it was said by other forum members that the scopes did not originaly have ANY markings or hairs/wires, the scopes were just to make the target easier to see, magnifying them only. So the snipers used to paint marks to give them a better referance, or put 2 hairs, crossed, to give them a point that they would shoot at. Anyway, I thought it looked cool, and made a few like that. It got to where people were asking for fingerprints, scratches, and dirt on there as well. I also thought it would be cool to fade the edges as well. I made a scope that started to incorperate these, and about the same time a new version of DOD came out, and it had all the goods already (fingerprints, faded edge, etc.), so I decided to just change the crosshairs and copied the edge. Now that I think about it, some of these are getting out of hand, like way too much white in them, the movie's were slightly translucent, but I have been putting a lot of clear in it.
Anyway, I am rambling now, but that is basicly how the "faded paint" crosshair thing entered the DOD comunity. If you like, I still have my old pure black scopes if you want one that is not faded.
