[preview]dod_edge_final

Hi there, I'm working on a new version of dod_edge2, this is the 3rd in it's rank already(lol, should have just called these b1,b2,b3), I'm making this map because I've heard people say the darkness is the #1 reason they don't play it. but hey: here are the screenshots with some new features

-axis now get to the right building at their side of the bridge in a brand-new way without any opposition instead of first having to run trough the street while getting the chance of getting shot
-added new skybox and lightning, still going to make the light a little lighter tho coz I don't think it fits the skybox pretty well.
-added a few new buildings
-decreased wpoly by a lot!
-you can shoot the cows now :D

I'm still going to add more detail near the new roads but anywayz, here are the screenshots

if anyone of you remembers dod_edge2 and had some personal problems with it, can you please post them so I can fix them maybe.

judging from the screen shots, it doesnt look as good as the previous version :(

I hate when mpas have _final on the end. Pet peeve 'spose.

And I'm with carnage. The lighting was better in the previous version.

yeah I know, I liked the previous one much more too but people complained it was too dark so yeah :/

Are all the windows bright, or there are some dark ones too for sniping?

as you can see on the first picture there is a building at the right end of the street wich has dark windows and the far house on the 3rd pic you see a hole in the roof, every side has one of those and these are pretty dark too ;) + the axis have a dark sniper window as well so it's balanced out a bit.

I think it looks quite similar as prev. one. edge2 wasn't too dark, mainly cause it gives enough contrast to spot enemies (winter theme + bright windows).

Edge2 played very well last season for us in the Eagle League,
were running it again this season.

only a few comments on things,

lighting could have been just a hair brighter... but not much, the map is quiet balanced, and played well. Some cover for the Axis at the bridge would be nice move the car a little closer to the bridge or moving the car from the allies side further away to even the balance just a bit for camping the brigde.

love the maps, both one and two... have become regular use here on our little custom map league.

3 requests:

1. If this truly is the final version, please just name it "dod_egde"
2. Include a .res file of all the files necessary and locations. This will be helpful to servers making use of the sv_downloardurl function.
3. Assuming this is a flag cap map, make sure the flag caps in the HUD correspond to how they are laid out for purposes of "tick" scoring (mp_clan_scoring variable).

Looking forward to seeing it.

it just looks so much more bare than the other versions. You said you lowered the r_speeds, but it really shows.

I really like the lighting, esp. the light coming out the windows onto the ground. The only problem seems to be that light is coming out of doors that are closed.
