Hello everyone. Just wanted to let you know how things are going and give you a bit of a preview of what I have in store.
Some of you may remember my ongoing project, dod_campagne (formerly known as countryside, campagne roughly means countryside in French). For those of you that don't remember or are new to the forums, it is a map that takes place in the hedgerow country of Northern France. It's objective based - the Allies (USA) have to destroy a Jagdpanther and Marder Anti-Tank Gun, and disrupt German communications by cutting telephone wires (with a pair of pliers found in a nearby barn). The Germans have to destroy two key bridges in the area to prevent any Allied advance. There's a twist for the Germans though - their platoon wasn't allotted any explosives. They must sneak into Allied territory to steal some explosives that the US supplied to the French resistance.
Without further ado, here are the pics:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/andyelliston/campagne_0426/
The pics don't show the entire map - trust me, it is quite large. What you aren't seeing is the river area and the two bridges that span it, and a few other areas.
Things left to do:
-Finish retexturing various things with kleinluka's wonderful textures.
-Add in 1.0 features once 1.0 is released. (I'll be adding Bazookas for the Allies, but they'll also be able to use Satchels if they like.)
Edit: also some textures by Mikezilla

Good work as usual! ;)
I recommend implementing the v1.0 tree models, or any custom tree models that will emerge once v1.0 is out.
Amazing! :D
BTW: how are the r_speeds?
-iNw-Andy
04-26-2003, 05:21 PM
Xerent: I definitely plan on implementing the 1.0 trees, as I'll be able to put more in, and they'll have less of an impact on r_speeds/performance.
Mikeleo: r_speeds are decent, maximum is ~850 in one or two spots.
very nice work definitly cant wait to play it :D :p

yes andy, were still hard at work with the script :)
I was wondering in picture #6 where the cross hair is at, there is a light green spot, is that sposed to be there or what?

I think that's one of those weird lighting errors, I'm in the process of fixing all the little bugs like that.
I beta tested it, I'd also like to mention that it plays very well too. Very nice work, unqiue objectives (clipping a telegraph wire), all kinds of stuff. Great work Andy!
ive been watching this one since it was started and have seen how much work andy has put into it and believe me, this is one map that is extremely well made and fun to play.
That's awesome. It's going to be a great change from all the urban maps out there.

Omg that looks perfect! It has a good atmosphere!
Love it!
ahhh......that looks like it could really shine my friend. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing the finished product.
Edit: when are you going to release it?
Yeah looks pretty good, and I figured you weren't showing all the areas. The river area might be nice to show.
Looks very nice, reminds of a level in MOHAA...

Releasage should be "soon" after the release of 1.0.

Looks great i cant wait to play it once v1.0 is out. It'll sorta be like a hedgerow substitute. Keep up the good work.
Like I said at the playtest, it looks awesome. I am eagerly waiting for it as much as 1.0. :p

Andy,

Really good job in my opinion.
Where did u get those brilliant textures? THe bocage texture and the superb track texture! Reminds me of MOHAA style...which is your bocage country...in denseness though (not open hedgerow country...but dense hedgerow country...yea they did exist too)

Textures are a mix of kleinluka (road and grass and (soon) most buildings), xerent (foliage), kamikazi! (misc stuff), and valve (some buildings) textures.

will there be new tanksandbag models, btw looking great, also will it be british plz plz plz plz

I'll be using a lot of the new 1.0 models - trees, tanks, and whatever else they have in store for us. I know HK made a new Jagdpanther (for dod_jagd :D), and I think I saw a new M4 Sherman in one of the kalt pictures. And of course, I'll be adding the new sandbag models.
Sorry, I'm still going to make the Allies Americans. Can't help the fact that I'm a Yank :P

could i suggest ditches at certain parts of the road, so you can get in there and set up an mg
I do believe there is some ditches in one of those pictures. :p
There are some trenches and stuff in a few areas of the map, it's pretty balanced for mg's in my opinion.
I really cant wait to play this map, and like everyone says, it does look like one of those moh:aa maps but better! :p
nice stuff andy :)
finally my account is back up thx tim ;D

Damn i really like that
Some of that stuff looks like its straight from MOH:AA. The tower in new02 looks exactly like the one from the Bocage mission in MOH:AA. And alot of the other buildings look very familiar as well. If its not, then my bad. Looking excellent though!

kewl, cause i was just watching a program on british advance up to Caen and it had 2 riflemen and a Bren gunner pinned down my an MG in a roadside ditch, so the MG42 was firing over them and a stone landed in the bren gunners cup of tea and he responded with "right iv had about as much as i can take of this" which he then jumped up control of the bren which was on the top of the ditch and opened up with all he had, killed the entire mg position.

great job!, personaly i find it a little desolate and quite claustrophoebic, sorry, i prsonaly dont like very linear close line maps, but still a good piece of work :) well done :D
-iNw-Andy
04-27-2003, 05:44 PM
Upon playing the map, I think you'll find it's not quite as linear as you initially may think. There are lots of secondary paths you can use to get around areas and sneak up on people :)
Oh, and re the MOH:AA stuff - I may have been inspired by it, but in no way have I attempted to "copy" it. I just liked the idea of a silo :)

Read the thread kind sir. All of your questions have already been answered. Objectives are in the very first post (!) and I answer the second question later on.

Looks beautiful and sounds like you've put good thought into the gameplay.
W/out promising a date, do you have a ROUGH idea how soon post-1.0 it'll be out?

Not sure, depends on how long it takes me to add and perfect all the new stuff. Maybe a week or two, schoolwork permitting?

Not nearly as many as I did before. Now I'm using models for the trees and bushes, so I probably have more env_models than anything in the map :)
Damn, that is nice, nice, nice work. :D
As promised, rot and I will fight to the death to preview it. (I will win of course ;) ).
Make a minimap for it, or get someone to do it for you. That would be 1337!

this map always looked real nice. but now with the mega-foliage, it looks the way it was meant to be: downright awesome.
