DoD_Crossfire_b2

This map features a unique style of gameplay. Each team has 4 flags in and around their base, which can be stolen by the enemy.
Your team must return all 4 of the enemy's flags (to your base) to win. There is also a radio within each base that can be used to call for artillery strikes against the enemy's side. This radio can be destroyed (points for the destroyer), disabling further artillery.
Layout is wide open through the middle, with 2 smaller side routes.
other notes:
You can walk right thru the treelines into the main battle area, this is intentional. (Thx to Glidias for reminding me how to do this)
Some areas within each teams base have unprotected spawns, this is intentional also, but may change in the final release. The chances of you spawning right in front of an enemy are very low, and your team will see a warning onscreen when enemies are within your building.
known bugs:
- text message appears over top of flag icons and is hard to see
- strange square dark spot under the fallen tree
DSSG will be hosting a public playtest this sunday (mar 21) at 11:00am pacific time (2pm est) for anyone interested in having some input. I will be there to hear all comments... :)

Not the most blendy texture set, but I do enjoy the environment. I'd personally work on some of the textures more, it'd take this to the next level.

P.S. Am I the only one who saw "crossfire" and got that bald CNN guy's head come into mind? It's probably just my current illness :rolleyes:

btw: i test the map with my dod retail and it runs but i got msg: couldn`t open models/mapmodels/flo_grass2.mdl

i add this model and test it again. now at many places i can see the model, but that haven`t any function for me. so you can fix this for the b3 version, i haven`t add this model to our dl

its the grassmodel from flo he uses in heutau2...for example it ****s dod_forest too...try it ;)...

its in my gcf
should i use a diff one, or include it?

This Sunday 2pm EST, March 21, DSSG is hosting a playtest for Greenhorn. He is the mapper of dod_push currently on rotation on the Kustom Kettle servers.

The map is DoD_Crossfire.
The playtest is going to be on

Its pretty decent, needs some texture tweaking but its nice, doesnt play like a normal map eithere not just because of the flags, but there just so many routes, there were several occations where i was killed by a guy that was right beside me and i didnt even know he was there, pretty fun map.

Very fun map. I think you should make the allied/axis buildings more unique looking, and I think the map could benefit from a tunnel or two from one side ofthe tree line to the other.

--Fun and different. Does need a bit a of a "pick me up"

Suggestions

- add some ambience its deathly quiet sometimes. Crickets, whatever, too quiet.

- needs a texture makeover use newer textures 3.1 just looks old

- add new global sounds like and text (ie)
(an axis troop has an allied flag) & (axis troop has returned a flag)

- a bit on the dark side but thats ok. Perhaps just better lighting inside the houses

- a warning sign that an enemy soldier has entered your base

- you are using a TINY amount of wpoly so my suggestion is add a little bit more detail, like some fountains near the houses or something. Just a lil bit plain at the moment.

- add some bonus fun stuff like a place to pick up more grenades in the middle

Had some intesnse fighting when ppl are right on top of you. Good lush vegetation feel to it. Very green.

fun oddball suggestion, make it like paintball, strip weapons, and give everyone a carbine lol

Thx to all who came out for the playtest.
We had a pretty good turnout. All your input shall be considered for the next version, keep the comments coming.

as per the flo_grass2.mdl, there are 2 versions of this mdl floating around (i'm guessing) So if you have one in your dod/models/mapmodels folder, try removing it and running from the one in the gcf (perhaps this wasnt included with retail? i dunno). This fixed the problem for one person anyway.

There is a message to warn of enemys in your base, its currently overtop of the flags and hard to see

There will be a variety of texture fixes next version

Tunnels-perhaps

Carbines only is sure tempting, i noticed most people using assault weapons. But no, all weapons will stay i think, i like to snipe :)
