Animation idea...

Right, I'm not too up on animating so bear with me of this one.

I was wondering if it would be possible to have a player model appear to have a holstered side arm/nades but when they change to that weapon, it dissappears from its holster/webbing so only the p model is seen in the players hand and gives the impression that the player has drawn it.

The way i figured you could do it is add two extra bones to the player model each one assigned to eithe the side arm or nade and have them move with the rest of the body in a set position to make them look as they they are in the player's holster or webbing. Then when the player draws that weapon the bone move either a great distance below the player model (so its under ground) or above (so its too high to see). This would move the model off the player leaving only the weapon visible in its hand.

I know this would involve editing every side arm/nade animation not to mention all the others to have the weapon remain in the holsters but is it possible you reckon?

Did something like this in 3.1 to make the player model take a magazine out of his pouches and reload.

Trouble is, if you switch back to your main weapon the grenades will "refresh" on the belt again.

Aye, thats the only thing that i thought would be a problem, that and of course that the holstered weapon may not be the same p model you are using (e.g. luger in holster, p38 in hand)

But you're saying the it is possible?

To a certain degree yes. Adding the bones can be a sod though as it screws up the blending system sometimes and DoD has a benny when you try to join a server.

I did something for the Enfield in 3.1 where he could take the magazine off the gun and reload it. It only worked because he swapped hands with the Enfield - there were to p_models so on the reload one I took the mag off and started the animation at the magazine and put a magazine inside the player starting at the gun, putting it in the pouch and appearing to take a new one out and place it in.

Of course with 1.1 you'd possible have to have a magazine for EVERY weapon inside him if you wanted to be that perverse about it.

I like the idea, and if this was still 3.1 i would look into it, but since 1.0 i can't use high poly player models with all the high poly equipment anymore. But i could run any player models with 3.1 without a drop in performance, and i had a graphics card that is not a patch on the one i have now, it sucks.

I can use high poly V_models no prob, but player model kill me FPS.
