Explosion Sprite
Anyway to use the explosion sprite from DOD_CHARLIE and make it for every explosion in dod? I love how the dirt kicks up and I thnk it rocks. gives you the "explosion feel"
Its a particle effect, not an actual sprite, so I don't think there's any real way you can copy it. That's why you only see that effect when something explodes in the sand or the water.
So there isnt a way to make it possible for particle effects on all terrain? like the explosion in the sand is sand colored. So an explosion in grassy-mudd like terrain would be like brown-green.

just rename all the sprites? I dont know. wait that doesnt even make sense.
I get that sometimes on non-beach maps, and I think they're from grenades. Kinda wierd...

Ya, its not only on Charlie, but when your grenade/rocket hits any dirt or water it will make that particle explosion.
So what we need is a sprite expert that would gladly try to enlighten me on this subject. "Is there a way to make the particle effects work for every explosion?"

As far as I know (dev correct me if I'm wrong) but the explosion effect is particle based and functions on set material properties.
example, you know how your footsteps sound different on wood or snow... or how bullets cause dirt sprays in sand, but sparks on metal?
Yeah, essentially every texture in the game is assigned a material type (snow, sand, metal, wood, etc) and the game reacts based on it.
Thus is the explosion effects on sand and water.
Now, if the DoD team wanted to be reeeaallly clever... and this may very well be impossible, but I would love to see the particle explosions pick up the color of the texture it is detonating on, and apply it to the explosion effect.
Example, the sand in Charlie is fairly gray, so it matches the plume. however, in other areas, like the dirt, is brown, but the explosion is still grayish.
That would probably be tricky to implement though.
Anyway, hope that helps a little.
