A Map Project By KominAaa & Ginger Lord

(Map originally made by KominAaa, Texturing and slight modifications by GL)

This map is set in a small but very rainy town in Normandy, the objetives are to capture THREE flags in the town. Not many flags to capture eh? The first and last flags are guarded extremely well though by 2 tanks with automatically firing MG's. You must take the two tanks out with a Panzerschrek (found in the main Plaza) before you can capture that last flag, that is unless you like being full of lead.

The Allied Road to the Central Plaza

Some Of The Good Points:

New Custom Rainy Ambience made me GL, with specific sounds relating to location. Under a tin roof? Hear the loud pitter patter of the rain on the roof.

Tanks guarding last flags with the Panzerschreks to destroy them out in the open, Will you take the sprint across the main Plaza to get them?

Lots of custom textures made by KominAaa

The Bad Points:

High wpoly at the moment (varies from 600-1300)

Density is my priority project atm so this is not getting a lot of time, expect to see Density released soon and then this will get all my attention.

Very nice, I like the textures. Get the r_speeds down, and if the gameplay is great this thing could be golden! GJ

Wow, this is an awesome idea ginger. I have a question though.

How long do the flags take to capture?

Are the MG's on the tank the same ones as the ones used in spawn?

Could you compare the size of this place to another official map?

Are the bazookas and panzerschreks in the spawn? Or in the middle of the map?

Anyways, good job. I really love the lighting and the look and feel. I hate dark windows :D.

that looks awesome, victory for texturizing! i like how a lot of the areas are open with a couple of pieces of clutter. there's two dark spots that look awkward though, in that plaza pic i think, shouldnt' the ambient light reflect on the inner walls and such a little? or maybe a different screenshot would illustrate it better. also, people are going to camp those spots like no tommorow (which may be intentional) if they're as dark as they look.

The end flags are 2 man 5 second caps and the middle is a 2 man 7 second cap.

The MG's are the same as in spawn areas, but hidden in the models co-axial MG's

The size is hard to judge, i'd say about 2/3 size of Avalanche

2 Panzerschreks are placed in the middle plaza, one at the top and one at the bottom

I havn't got round to lighting those buildings so thats why they are dark on the inside.

ouch, so you're trying to discourage full caps? end 2 man caps with 5 seconds generally make it very hard to cap out... you have to get 2 people there in the first place, then you have to not have the enemy spawn and kill you before the cap finishes. you might try fandangling with the numbers on those. if you want some wait to ensure the defenders have a chance if one guy runs out rambo, a single man 3 second cap might work better. not that i'm trying to tell you how to make your map, just some advice.

Very, very impressive..but wut about DOD_DENSITY??

Ginger Lord
03-14-2004, 05:05 AM
Regarding Density its about to have another test, first test went well but found that the first section was too easy and second stage too hard, hopefully they will now be more balanced

2 Bridges to capture before Advanced Spawns start, that is all im saying at the moment. Expect a WIP:DoD_Density "soon"

Wood a bit off. Some texture misalignments that hpoefully can be fixed.

Other than that, this seems to be one of the grittiest most realistic looking maps i've seen. The photorealistic textures and theme is done very well, and it's feel so real. Great lighting too. Actually, we need more maps like yours with that level of realism....Those textures really rule...reminds me of real life Falaise or some other bombed out towns unlike what you normally see in cartoonish n00bish DoD with "so-clean" tiles. Most bombed out WW2 towns involve dirt, gravel and mud....whether y're talking bout Faliase, Aachen, Brest, Coustances, etc. those towns were dirtyrised. This map feels just like that.

I personally think the photorealilistic textures are a bit odd looking. I think they need to be darkened a bit or something because right now it looks like they have some glare on them or something (specifically that window texture in the picture posted above).

I agree with Glidias 100 percent.

This is what Day of Defeat should look like. Bombed out, destroyed cities with ub3r amounts of cover. As of now, only Caen remains of the official list. All the others are so "intact" its bizzare.

Seems like maps are getting less and less destroyed to try to look "prettier" which I don't understand, considering lots of players love the feel of maps like thunder (not donner). And a large town in WWII ends up a heaping pile of bricks and wood....

anywayz
You'll be doing the map scene a big favor by releasing the textures. I hope you do.

one suggestion. use different tree models. Everything has a "real" look and then you get the cartoonish trees in there.

actually, i made a skin for the tree model you are using. If u want to see it, i will show it to you. Ill catch u on irc (im neurtrino..just cant get a name change around here)
